You know, the same way one might forget to eat food. I keep a bottle of migraine zappers for this exact occasion when I wake up in the middle of the night with my head exploding and I’m like “oh. right. I’m dependant on a substance. nice fumble, dweeb”

Tried it, not into it. May revisit again later in life but right now the little things are kind of keeping me alive. Besides, fucking up the coffee is grounds for divorce. And divorced from my grounds, I’ll not be.

I’ve been drinking coffee everyday since I was at least 12. I’ll get a headache in the afternoon if I don’t have it in the morning.

Except that I once went a week unknowingly drinking decaf coffee and didn’t experience withdrawal, so maybe there’s something psychological at play?

could be. another commenter said they don’t get withdrawals. but I’ve noticed this is the only substance I’ve developed a habit of so it must be real somehow.

Yeah I get a headache that night if I miss the late morning caffeine dose. I find they are really resilient and distinct headaches though, so I will usually try to have a little caffeine with the painkiller, like strong tea or milk with coffee in it. It doesn’t mess with my sleep and works much faster and more thoroughly than a pill alone.

Can’t say I have. It takes 2-3 days for my withdrawals to kick in and they don’t show up as intense as yours. And I’d say I’m quite sensitive to caffeine.

It’s more like a severe cold for me, no headaches.

I will have a slightly annoying headache if I don’t have coffee for a day or so. But I won’t drink tea for caffeine or those sugar beverages, so if I don’t have coffee I’ll accept the headaches. Because I like the taste/smell.

Not long ago I was feeling kinda out of whack and tried going a few days without coffee to see if that helps.

It didn’t, but I was surprised how easy it was to just stop drinking it. Didn’t notice any withdrawal symptoms.

no symptom cold turkey, eh? that’s petty good. I get headaches the first day and then afterward it’s remembering that I like coffee.

Afterwards I definitely did want to drink coffee (so I did and never stopped), but during the break I kinda forgot coffee was a thing. Still felt like shit, but not any more than with coffee.
