As a person with adhd, for me it is: “Better make a little progress than none at all.” If i spend even 15 to 30 minutes once every few days, i will eventually get the result, than not doing it at all. Also, spening a lot of time and effort will exhaust me quickly, compared to just 15 to 30 minutes.
This is a great rule to follow!! This framing has helped me break past the inability to get started on a task so many times.
This rule goes along with another one. Firtsly i make my things work at all, even if they suck. I can always improve them or add something new later. This rule allows me return to my old projects, and every time do new incremental progress.
Ooof that is a hard one for me! I almost never finish anything, I need to live more like this
Also helps to not overthink what’s being done. Just Do It. Takes 90% less time to just act
This is the problem that i struggle with. I think too much before doing anything.
This meshes well with one of mine which is anything worth doing is worth half assing.
Hanlon’s razor: never attribute to maliciousness that which can be explained by stupidity. With a corallary: never attribute to stupidity that which can be explained by mere ignorance.
Also: embrace the impermanence.
I try to do this; but, I live in Ohio. Malicious ignorance is a way around here… ಠ_ಠ
“Go with the decision that would make the better story if you had to tell someone about it”*
*Keeps me from being stuck at home when I could do something more fun
“Be the kind of person you admire.”
Everything in moderation, including moderation.
for people: start with kindness there will be enough time to give them a hard time, if they suck.
also: give them chances to normalise the relationship (but know boundaries!)
fuck it dog life’s a risk
I’m done hiding.
Call out bullshit when I see it, regardless of who it’s coming from.
It’s served me well enough so far.
As a recovering people pleaser: Not my circus, not my monkeys.
I’ve had to learn to stop trying to fix everything for everyone all the time.
“Not my circus, not my monkeys” is a great rule to live by. I like that one a lot.
I always try to do my best.
My “best” changes a lot from day to day - some days it’s all I can do just to make it through.
But I think people can see that I care, and that i’m trying. And trying is what matters.
Don’t borrow trouble.
There’s no rules except those I agree to
Try not to be a dick. I just feel if everyone followed that then the world might be a better place.
Machi Bhasad (or “Expect a Riot”).
My mother brought me up to be quiet and deferential. That … changed … around my late '20s and early '30s.
