I think we should have more communities to just post your random thoughts about something - not just memes/images, but also text. Here’s some showerthoughts: (I’m not gonna post them to /c/showerthoughts@lemmy.world to not bring politics into every communities)

The history of the terms “left” and “right” wing politics is actually quite interesting. I looked it up and everyone keeps brabbling about how the terms go back to the french revolution where the supporters of the Ancien Regime (king & aristocracy) sat on the right side of parlament while those opposing the old rulers sat on the left side. But that lacks a whole lot of context and is a kinda reductionist view. It’s like saying that humanity and the whole world suddenly “sprang” into existence 6000 years ago and before that existed nothing. Kinda stupid, you know, seeing as humanity evolved in a continuous process out of what has already existed before.

I could trace the term “right” (not only as a spatial direction, but also as a trait of character) back to the roman antiquity.

Saying the terminology “left” and “right” stems from post french revolution is not the same as saying left and right politics stem from the french revolution. The latter is false while the former is right.
