News@lemmy.world•Trump isolated after trade escalation with Europe over Greenland
11·9 hours agoAfter Trump steals Greenland, some one in Europe should invite him to a palace for a fancy dinner, under the guise of negotiationing a trade deal. And arrest him for stealing Greenland.
What’s going on here?

3·1 day agoBefore cellphones, payphones were coin operated public telephones people could pay to use if they needed to make a phone call.
In San Francisco, I know of one functioning payphone that is still in service. Most have been removed since there is no demand for them any longer.
But this one is free and only calls the other one in Texas with a specific intention.

2·1 day agoFrom the Instagram:
We’re installing a pay phone in the most conservative city in the U.S. and one in the most liberal city. When one phone is picked up, it automatically calls the other.
The goal of this project is to create space for friendly, human-to-human conversations. We believe that a few different opinions (even on important political topics) should not block us from having a truly positive, maybe even fun conversation with other humans.
These phones will be live on Sunday January 18th, and we will post any interesting/meaningful conversations that occur on this channel!

2·1 day agoWell, that is super sad. I think the fact that the tenants had their checks cashed is outrageous. Who tf has that money?! Give it to the landlord or the evicted tenants right now. plus interest.
I would like for the tenant to be allowed to stay in their apartment if they continue paying rent, and the new landlord can fight it out with the old landlord in court. I want to know exactly how the tenants were informed of the required new payment system.
I always knew the Mosser company was a horrible company. The new TerraCotta Multi company seems equally as despicable. In a just world, neither of them would ever be allowed to buy a building in SF ever again.

2·1 day agoThe city did plant trees in my neighborhood like 10 years ago. They selected Chinese Elm trees, which are terrible because on a gusty day, or rain, their branches snap and crush cars. Chinese Elms really need trimming every 1-2 years to prevent the branches that crush cars, but Rec & Park prefers to trim trees every 4-ish years. Chinese Elms are idyllic because they grow quickly and create that tree lined street charm, but I’ve heard a lot of neighbors complain about the choice of tree.
That’s my tree story. This issue is not on the top 10 things I concern myself with in the city.

QueerDefenseFront@lemmy.blahaj.zone•Men under 24 returning to homophobic views of past generations, study suggests - Pink NewsEnglish
15·1 day agoMen under 24 have largely lived in a world of higher gay acceptance than previous generations. (broadly speaking about western society, not places like saudi or fundamentalist sects)
There’s a lot more intolerance to stigmatizing gay people, cops prosecute crimes against gay people, gay people aren’t as openly discriminated at work like in the past. Homosexuality is much more accepted in 2026 than in the 1990s.
I wonder if living in a community where they haven’t seen violent gay intolerance makes them unaware of what they are advocating for.
This is very exciting!!! I’m happy for you and hope you enjoy your sink. Also what’s Newton’s 3rd law? Not for me, just the uninformed others.
California’s constitution considers California as inseparable from the United States. Congress would have to want to get rid of California.
No, you’re supposed to stay up until 3an when you need to wake up at 7am
A few lucky Americans are getting this Monday off. Some paid, some not.
