  • Ugh yeah I can relate when it comes to social skills and I’m pretty quiet myself, though in my case I think I’ll just have to keep looking for opportunities I can get more experience and practice in. I’ve been struggling to put myself out as much as I’d like there, and super unpleasant interactions with strangers who’ve clocked me push me further into staying inside more (and I’m living in one of the most accepting cities out there for trans people). 😔

I’d describe my family as mostly being cruelly indifferent to me, though occasionally they can come across as antagonistic too. I personally haven’t dealt much with them pushing gender expectations on me (a good chunk of why though is because I avoid family gatherings and I have only even come out to a select few of them in the 45 months I’ve been on HRT), but that sounds awfully draining to deal with, as I feel coming out is supposed to help break those constraints and alleviate the pain that comes with them in the first place. I hope you can get to a safer place soon. 🫂

  • It’s a bit weird for me. I knew and always consciously thought of myself as a girl since I was a kid, which really intensified my dysphoria because it wasn’t until I was 20 that I found out the pain it’s causing me is real and valid, and that I could just transition.

Knowing made me like hyper-aware of how often I’d be gendered masculine by others and how much I detested every instance of that, as well as how uncomfortable the social situations I was put into were (like my school throwing me into an all-boys class for dance instead of the co-ed dance class 😔).

I’ve always wondered how many others have experienced something similar to this. I imagine those who’ve had their egg crack but couldn’t quite start their transition for some years until they’re somewhere safe, or were gatekept medically by waitlists and such (happened to me and I didn’t know about DIY) were in a bit of a similar boat. 🤔

  • About 13 years ago when I was 13 (6 years before my egg was forcibly destroyed), I made a Mii after a Castlevania character on my 3DS and a bit later at that time I was grinding Smash Bros 3DS a ton online.

Iirc, for some reason your username online shows as whatever your Mii’s name is, and being known as Shanoa just felt so right to me. So after a lot of hesitation, I decided to name my online handles that and even entered my first in-person Smash tournaments that year under the same name. 💀 I have been competing in platform fighters ever since.

Being known by most of my friends as Shanoa made it really stick with me like it was my real name and whenever I thought about living as a girl, that was the name I always wanted to go by. So after I learned I was trans, I ended up going through with it.

I’m still very early in my social transition, but it’s pretty cool to think despite that most people I know irl have been calling me exclusively by my real name for the majority of my life now lol

  • I get a mix of intense gender envy, but also a ton of vicarious euphoria just enjoying how much happier people look/are in their timelines/stories. I can definitely relate though, and I’ll go into a bit of my situation to better explain how I observe it.

In my case I’ve been aware that I’m a girl for over like 16 years now, and I only mustered enough courage to go on hrt 4 years ago. In all that time I’ve been constantly thinking about transitioning, but I’ve still hardly been able to acquire any clothes or make enough gender affirming changes, so timelines for me often feel like a painful reminder that I’m unable to make the changes I want as fast as I’d like.

I mostly manage by appreciating all the small bits of progression I do get and knowing that I’m only going to look better from here in the future. And even with how much they sometimes hurt to see, hearing about other people’s success helps fill in some of the happiness I’m missing from my own transition, so I’m fortunate to get far more of a positive reaction from them.

It’s all so slow and rough (I’m still annoyed that my endo waitlist took over a year, so good call on starting DIY), but as someone also struggling to make progression I wish you the best of luck. 🙏🏻❤️
