pics@lemmy.world•USMC CH-53 Sea Stallion after an emergency landing in a rice field in Japan, 2024.
6·3 months agoThe US Navy is sundowning the platform, and like most assets deemed too old for the Navy, is likely now being transferred to the Marine Corp. The command gaining the asset hasn’t had the time to repaint it yet or the don’t have the paint because Marines have an issue with eating art supplies.
You should listen to most others here in the thread and seek professional help. That being said, it’s not always an option for some. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it (especially at this time), but since you’re in the US and have an interest in seafaring work, have you considered joining the Navy?
The medical benefits alone can be worth it, but your want for work kinda sounds like you want purpose and it provides that for a lot of people. You’re below the maximum age and so long as you can pass the physical requirements for your age and a drug test, waivers exist for most other criteria. No experience required.
Service comes with its own stresses as does life at sea, military or not. Be wary. Probably best to just see a doctor if you can.

All I read here is OPEN-SOURCE GOAT HARDWARE! Sweet!
“a couple of dedicated machines”
Is this a new installation? Has this process control system ever been in a state that did not produce the reported discrepancy? What changed and when?
Did you virtualize the site’s legacy system?
I’ve had this happen on a newer Dell laptop and an Asus atx build. For both machines, a BIOS upgrade to the latest from their respective OEMs immediately restored functionality.

retrocomputing@lemmy.sdf.org•Replacement PS/2 cable for IBM Model M keyboard?
2·11 months agoYou’re looking for what’s called a “pigtail”. Ps/2 seems to be another name for 6-pin “mini-din”, which is a standardized connector format.
Here’s an example.

You can try searching anywhere that would carry that kind of equipment like mouser.com or digikey.com.

Nah, uh, uh. You didn’t say the magic word!
If you plan on using the device for school, it might be worth your effort to check with the school to see if your program of study will be accommodating, allows for, or otherwise specifies directly what os to use. Some institutions offer free or reduced cost licenses for what os is required. I know that there may be some coursework that can require a specific os for the applications you’ll be required to use. Test monitoring software is the first, and probably most extreme, example that comes to mind.

^here’s a good place to look for compatibility and hardware support.
You said your parents believe it to be a poor choice because of the machine age. Do you mind me asking what you purchasing it primarily for?

The Internet in Ancient Times@lemmy.world•My kid found this tablet out in the woods. This sort of thing shouldn't even be legal.
76·2 years agoSo for any one else wondering, I went looking for receipts and it seems to check out. Source material claims to be affiliated with the University of Oxford. The database is difficult to navigate, but i was able to find this link to the 4.08.16 english text.
Even as someone who is way out of depth, the database is interesting to explore.
