Depends… do you live in a village or the city?
Grizzlybur
My main interests are Canadian cultural heritage, and just about all things Canadian!
I prefer to keep it largely anonymous on the fediverse, respect that as you can please. But, there are some things I don’t mind sharing about myself!
I am French Canadian (second generation Franco-Ontarien), but through circumstances of how I was raised I am only now learning French as an adult. I am currently at the A2 level. I often post and reply in French speaking communities as applied practice.
I am a trained historian, with a MA in history, and in my spare time I often am researching and learning about both Canadian and French Canadian history, culture, and art. This research is often the source of inspiration for my posts. Ultimately, I aspire to one day own land in Quebec around either Quebec city or outside of Montréal.
I am the same person as grizzlybur@lemmy.ca. I often use this username across multiple services, but not every Grizzlybur is actually me.

5·4 天前Always always always gotta be shopping by price per unit/weight/litre etc etc. it needs to be basic financial literacy that is taught and made accessible by transparency laws like this. It’s crazy the amount of people that I gotta explain why you buy in bulk and why not every food item is actually super worth it at the dollar stores.

3·1 个月前Nice! This is a new band for me, I’d been wanting to branch out and hear some more of the newer bands from the Maritimes! I may make this band one of the upcoming featured artists.
Love these guys, they’re essentially Canadian Dragonforce lol

2·2 个月前Glad to see Angine De Poitrine on there. I mean they are already having their songs played during Habs games.
They have a playlist on their Spotify of other quebecois artists that presumably inspired them, I’d recommend giving it a listen. I believe it’s called “Du Quebec”, which roughly translates to “some Quebec” or “of Wuebec”. There are some iconic French Canadian on there as well as some real underground shit.
Crucial, but depending on the design technically not required! There are designs of planes where the entire plane is just one big wing. Buuuuuuut having the traditional rudder, aileron, and elevator is tried trued and reliable.

3·2 个月前Oh thats neat! I had no idea this was a thing.
I believe that playlist may have been on @Binzy_Boi@piefed.ca 's old lemmy.ca account which was deleted, which unfortunately took ALL of their comments and posts with them. IIRC, they did not anticpate that account deletion also meant post and comment deletion – was an accident. Funnily enough, the only reason that this community wasn’t deleted with that incident was because me and evkob were added as moderators first.
I may set up a playlist with all the subs music on spotify, but I know that that is not everyone’s music platform of choice. It is shockingly difficult to share music in a format that is platform agnostic.

3·3 个月前My nominations for French language:
Fabienk by Angine de Poitrine.
It is quite the upcoming and popular band, and they are something entirely unique and Quebecois. Although, arguably there is no French being spoken in the music persay, but they are from Saguenay Quebec. If they don’t count as an international hit already, this is absolutely my top choice.
Stable by oui merci.
This song is rather unlike their other music, and for the better in my opinion. This is really catchy and distinct from other music and is pleasant to listen to.
Dogue by Ariane Roy
Very slow but methodic, and sung with a rather beautiful voice.
Anarcolique by Jérôme 50
Jérôme is an absolutely wonderful artist and I would struggle to imagine someone more fit to represent Quebec in music than the artist who made the iconic Tokébakicitte. He is clearly proud of being from Quebec and keeps his music rooted in that. This would be my second top nomination.
I really want to nominate P’tit Belliveau, but he has not released any songs in 2025 or sooner :(
I’ll post some more nominations for the English language category, as well as some for the first nations languages. I found and know of a couple of artists who might fit that description – I feel like im awfully uncertified to judge their music though since its so culturally different to what I know and I do not understand the language even a bit. Feels wrong to just rank it purely based on how it sounds without knowing the content and cultural context, y’know?

I was having issues using their service while making these posts. I will search for an alternative soon. I like the concept but the reliability of the service is lacking. The idea is meant to be a linktree but for songs.

Absolutely correct — I for example know that if I buy my canned teas in bulk at Costco, I will drink WAYYYY more than if I didn’t.
But if it’s items like trash bags or laundry detergent, absolutely buy in bulk because you will use it at a largely fixed rate anyways. Bite the bullet of the higher initial cost IF YOU CAN, and slowly you will save money by ironically spending more money — initially. It’s not so different to the infamous boot economic theory but with food.
