Oh yes. Pepper spray. That’ll stop a determined aggressor.

(/s. It won’t. This drone is not for that. Probably for quelling student protest or something to that effect instead.)

    (Anything but gun control, amirite?)

Anything but hiring human guards maybe?

Who am I kidding, the admin gets a kick back from the vendor for showcasing their tech. Money is always the answer in 'murica

Human guards would be more effective than the drone at stopping an active shooter; but they won’t stop active shooters from being active in the first place.

For that you need to attack the actual problems.

Hammering a nail with a rock is a more effective solution than hammer a nail with a cucumber. Doesn’t mean the rock is a good solution.

And that should give you an idea of how bad drones in schools are.

Not a fan of this, nor the glaring issue not being addressed directly, but a literal child being pepper sprayed will effectively stop them. They’re not monsters, they’re not superhuman, they’re kids. Kids with guns, and very sensitive eyes and mucus membranes

        No.

        It won’t.

All pepper spray is, is an irritant. I personally train people on a monthly basis to work through it. I’ve personally seen people- including teenage kids- angry enough, or on something, or having just been exposed enough- that it does nothing.

Pepper spray isn’t a restraint, or an incapacitant. Its sole use is in pissing people off, breaking up drunken crowds, or harassing protestors.

Additionally, pepper spray is fundamentally designed to spread and contaminate everything in the vicinity- including those kids you care sooo much about.

You know what does stop gun violence? Gun control and mental health programs.

Also, let me point out that flying a drone at an armed person is an excellent method of getting them to shoot at it. And while drones are rather hard to hit, schools tend to be full of kids who are much easier to hit.

Also, who is going to operate this? And train on it? It’s not easy to do this, so I’m assuming it’ll be untrained morons fucking things up as usual.

Usually, the scheme is remotely stationed pilots at a facility, as long as the internet stays live, at least. One or two teams can cover most the nation.

            But yeah.

Also they were “inspired” by Ukrainian drones- the ones that fly in and explode. Nobody is using pepper balls in wartime.

Putting aside all of the false positives and mission creep e.g. used on unruly 3rd graders, let’s imagine a real-world scenario where a shooter comes prepared with goggles and these drones simply blind every student in their immediate vicinity.

Who’s gonna be liable for those deaths?

Can we get them to open source the design?

Swap the pepper spray with black spray paint, and the targets from kids to flock cameras, and I think most people will pool money together to buy these things.
