Minnesota appears to be in gear for a mass uprising. Unions, community organizations, faith leaders, and small businesses there are calling for a statewide day of “no work (except for emergency services), no school, and no shopping” on January 23. Festering grievances swelled into a national outcry on January 7, after ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot and killed poet and mother of
One day will do fuck all. That’s not how strikes work. It needs to be ongoing until demands are met.
At the very least everyone should refuse service to ICE wherever they show up.
One day is a start. If they actually manage to get a general strike for a single day with 75% adherence across the city, that would create such a panic in the billionaire class and create so much momentum that it has serious potential to effect change. Billionaires would not want that catching on or sticking around, and once we have one day. Well why not two days? Or three days?
That idea is why strikes exist. Putting an expiry date on your own threat is the same as not making it, possibly worse.
We need to spread the word, right fucking now, that contingencies are in effect and that if they don’t cave within that 24hr, we escalate.
They will if they don’t leave by 1/23.
That’s the hope… but the current movement being called is for Friday after 2 pm, that is laughable
It almost feels like someone preemptively made a far away date hoping everything would have already died down and carefully placed it on a non critical day and put an expiry date on it.
It’s wild.
It just won’t be the mass we need.
