These crimes will not be forgotten or forgiven.
They should be hoping and praying that they are merely tried and convicted in courts of law. At this point it would be the best outcome for them.

Let me disappoint you: they will write history. It will be forgotten. Ice as a whole will never be punished (by the government or the people). The things they do will not be considered crimes in an actual court of law. There will be no convictions of agents seen as “doing their job”
To be clear, I don’t like any of that… but that’s the world we live in now, and no midterm elections are going to fix that.
