    Pretty cool design. Does this ward cost mean that if you don’t have a creature to put the counters onto, whatever you targeted it with is always countered?

      I may be wrong about this, but I believe the ward cost becomes part of the the casting cost of the spell, and if you don’t have any creatures, you aren’t able to cast the spell.
