In the USA, the regulations are made up and the points don’t matter.

The most aggravating part is that this egomaniac’s bullshit is making the real autonomous vehicle market look bad.

Live in San Francisco and I am impressed with the Waymos. There’s a lot of four way stops and lots of pedestrians. They honestly drive better than most people. There’s a lot of times too where a car pulls up alongside another row of cars paralleled parked on the street and turns on their emergency lights to make a delivery or something. Waymos somehow check other side of the road and proceed around these cars going into the other side of the street safely.

I can’t wait to get run over crossing the road. Hooray for no safety and hooray for death. I’ve never felt more at risk of random death.

Hooray for no safety and hooray for death.

Isn’t that the Musk philosophy? Kill anyone who gets in the way, and sue everyone else who survives his death traps?

Did you even read the article? The test was done under conditions that were intended to cause an accident. It’s to prove a point that doesn’t reflect real life conditions most of the time. The newly relaxed regulations you’re talking about weren’t taking into account any of the critical overall implications they were having on restricting Tesla and its major shareholders from increasing their wealth in exchange for a few dead bodies. It’s a good trade just ask Elmo.

I do check, but would you have guessed that this has been a problem in our community for a long time? To the point that actual riots have broken out over the dangers of crossing that street? No? Of course you wouldn’t because almost no one bothers with local history.

Like this has been a problem since at least the fucking 60’s, caused riots in the 70’s because of how dangerous it got. After the riots they dropped the speed limit and that made it better for a time. 3 years ago they had to install new systems at the crosswalks to flash blinking lights and to audibly tell drivers to stop because it was getting dangerous again.

Maybe just maybe I am not the asshole for expecting drivers to pay attention and respect the fact that they are driving through a university. Maybe just maybe they shouldn’t be driving through the university if they can’t be bothered to pay attention.

It’s a school bus test. Children are easily distracted and may run across the street. Doesn’t mean that they deserve to die so Musk can sell poorly regulated cars

In my city, we’ve had Waymo running for quite awhile, and there were definitely growing pains, but it seems to be doing alright, with no incidents I’m aware of in recent months. Tesla has announced their imminent entry into our market, and not only is their technology just blatantly not ready for prime time, but their business model is broken, because my city tilts progressive by a significant margin, and everyone here hates Elon Musk. There was even a previously success Tesla-only ride share operation run by a 3rd party that recently went out of business here. Tesla as a cab service is totally fucked financially, is my point, in addition to just being totally fucked

Also what makes cities absolute hell for combat makes them great for tossing a Molotov cocktail at random cars. Seriously there’s no victim and unlike Waymo folks have already started burning Teslas.

It’s already dangerous enough walking or biking in my city with bad drivers.

I just want nice sidewalks, bike lanes, and good public transportation.

And this is why Tesla is a danger to everyone INCLUDING the people who could actually be saved by real, well-tested, extremely safe autonomous vehicles like Waymo et al.

    TESLA IS NOT AUTONOMOUS DRIVING

ACTUAL AUTONOMOUS DRIVING IS SAFER THAN HUMAN DRIVERS

Fuck fuck fuck I hate this timeline so much. We could be saving lives but NOOOOOO we get this bullshit instead

Tesla’s FSD needs to be made illegal on the state level. Call your local state senator and alderman.

        It looks like you’re right.

An interesting point made in the article:

The NHTSA’s autonomous car regulators suffered layoffs after the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency cuts targeted that team, the Washington Post reported.

        What could possibly go wrong?

The whole point of DOGE was to tear down any department that was blocking him from doing stupid shit or investigating the stupid shit he has already done. Meanwhile, getting work done in the government is a disaster now. I contract with the public sector, and don’t get me wrong things have always been inefficient. Now that’s cranked to 11. Everyone who knew what they were doing took the buyout and left.

If Musk were, hypothetically, to give me a Cyber Truck, I’d let them make a big deal out of it. You know. Full stage, everything. Get in and drive off.

Only I’d put it into FSD mode and let it run him over on my way out.

The classic Elon’s iterative in production approach. Let it run in production and when an “error” happens, let’s try it few more times, then try to correct it and repeat.
