  • I really don’t understand the argument of saying plants are sentient in some way because they emit chemicals when harmed or recoil. My knee jumps up if I tap it with a hammer, my brain pulls my hand away from a hot stove before I can even register any pain, neither of those are “sentient” actions, that’s just how the cells respond to stimulus, and that automatic response is because of natural selection, not sentient choices or sensations. It’s like saying an auto-closing door is sentient and we ought not try to open it because whenever you try to open it it closes itself, so it “dislikes” being open.

  • This is probably my #1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crispbread Either plain or with low calorie butter

Good suggestions for snacks but I think a lot of people missed the “when I want to shove something in my face as a force of habit.” You really want to get the lowest calorie thing possible, ideal would be lettuce and celery since those are basically nothing but still give you something to eat. Next would probably be apple slices, berries have surprisingly low sugar, egg white is basically pure protein but a full egg is fine too. Sprouts can be good if you grow them right. I sometimes just slowly eat a spoonful of peanut butter over like an hour but…

I would also recommend having random drinks you can go between, like tea soymilk coffee, even diet soda. Just avoid anything with sugar or fat. Things like nuts are healthy but not a great constant snack food because they do have a lot of fat, so that should be an intentional thing rather than something to reach for.

So I did some more research, and evidently if you’re going to use AI at all, you’re probably increasing your energy usage by using it offline if you use it often (unless you are using renewables), since the data centers generally have cards specifically designed for AI. I think it might just be a case of everyone needs to use it significantly less, it’s like if 4k gaming was something the average joe was doing. If everyone was doing that 10 hours a day, we would have a big problem.

It’s kinda like saying it’s not immoral to go for a pleasure drive, but if you’re driving around 10 hours a day that’s probably not good and you should minimize it as much as you can.

90% of people do not use offline models, especially for everyone doing ai code and video. The offline models are undeniably worse and slower. These ai companies didn’t just magic billions out of thin air, most people are using the massive data farms. Also people are generally not playing 14 hours a day maxed out gaming, where for ai they might use it all day during work.

  • If someone complains about a problem they didn’t cause, it’s not suddenly their responsibility to fix it. You are allowed to just be mad at something unfair. Fixing it would make it better for everyone, you’re right. But if I’m irrationally afraid of women and I treat every woman I come across as a potential murderer, that’s not fair to them or to me, and it’s not their job to fix me.

  • No they are sourcing a Chinese tabloid which is governed by China to prove that China did not do something, while every other country’s reporting, including Chinese historians interviewed, says it is happening. This is the only link I checked to see if it was worth looking over the rest. I am using the most likely conclusion that either they did not care to see the source was from a Chinese tabloid because it confirmed what they already believed, or they are a foreign agent, which have been confirmed to exist on every social media platform. You should be wary I am one too. Either way it’s not worth anyone’s time.

  • Wasn’t there a meme post about how people don’t change their opinions when presented with facts? I think not even explanations, for me it was listening to someone I trusted talk to someone about their experiences. I think it’s often just people not imagining themselves as the other person and how they would feel experiencing all that, or just not knowing what the average woman deals with day to day.

I just don’t know what to say because I was that person before. A lot of people men especially are extremely pigheaded and argumentative, and you can be justifiably upset at them. If your goal is to help women and further feminism though, even a “correct” gotcha like this makes people less receptive to feminism. It’s just making enemies out of people who might be wrong, stubborn, and combative, which unfortunately is basically everyone at some point in their life.

The only thing the guy said was wrong was that it’s reverse sexism. If he said “so your main concern is improving things for women? That’s not egalitarian unless you believe women have it much worse than men today.” It’s someone misinformed being told he’s an enemy. Ragebait
