in my experience modern “dumbphones” are still just smartphones with bad hardware.
what actually helped me with phone usage and doomscrolling was completely deleting all mainstream/algorithmic social media, being extremely aggressive about blocking problematic domains with DNS (so it can apply to all my devices, not just my smartphone), rejecting unnecessary apps, limiting notifications to only specific people/times, etc.
tl;dr being mindful and intentional about how you use all technology will have a bigger impact than just replacing your phone with a different one :)

Solarpunk@slrpnk.net•What are your favorite nature documentaries that DO talk about human beings, but NOT in a way that sounds like humans just suck?
4·11 months agoplanet earth III’s second-to-last episode (“human”) is focused solely on humans and our relationship with nature (good and bad), while the final episode (“heroes”) is specifically about conservation. more is sprinkled throughout, such as the wuthathi people protecting raine Island in “coasts,” so i recommend watching the whole series.
the green planet is by the same team and is just like planet earth III, except it’s about plants instead.
this is what i do! it works really well.

yes! that’s awesome and i hope you had fun!
idk if theyll be suitable for your situation, but here’s some native ohio fruits im aware of:
- definitely seconding the pawpaw trees! the fruit tastes so good and im looking on getting some trees myself
- diospyros virginiana (american persimmon)
- amelanchier arborea (common serviceberry) and amelanchier canadensis (canadian serviceberry)
- prunus virginiana (chokecherry)
- prunus pensylvanica (pin cherry) is another native cherry, but probably has the same issues black cherries give you
(the ohio pawpaw festival is coming up this weekend btw! theres always people selling not just pawpaw fruits, but pawpaw trees and other native plants there.)
nausicaä and the valley of the wind. environmentalism shows up a lot in miyazaki’s work, but nausicaä is the most direct about it and aligns with solarpunk in its messaging and themes.
wow there’s so much info! thanks for the link.
thank you- i will forward this along.

what a coincidence - we grilled out yesterday!
aside from veggie burgers, i’m echoing the top comment: don’t sleep on grilled vegetables. peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, corn on the cob, eggplant, etc.
