I think the issue is offspring has an increased likelihood of genetic defects. So its kind of probably always been taboo. Like since humanity’s inception.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•A story old as time.English
31·29 days agoI’m well aware. The point is how the capitalist press was used to lie to the american people furthering their agenda and suppressing freely elected socialist leaders. It answered your question, and this particular instance wasn’t revealed as fact until some 35-40 years later. There’s plenty more examples like it.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•A story old as time.English
5·29 days agoThat’s disappointing… I’ll give you one example then. I’ll try to keep it short. Democratically elected socialist, Salvador Allende, was overthrown with help from Nixon, Kissenger, and the CIA using the media to influence public opinion in the 70s. Allende wanted to nationalize Chile’s resources like its copper mines which at the time were owned by US companies.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•They love it until you say the evil wordEnglish
1·1 month agoI think its hard to argue against cooperatives. They have a good track record, are member owned, and democratically controlled. Its a form of stateless socialism and a great place to start handing the means of production over to the proletariat.

3·2 months agoWhy not just make your own electric car? You only need to be an electrical engineer, a mechanical engineer, and have access to large industrial tooling. Basically. How hard could it be? Just watch some YouTube videos.

They told me it was a cool place to hang out during the collapse of late stage capitalism and the slow apocalyptic race to the bottom.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Tell us the truth Donny. English
5·3 months agoThere’s an Epstein email about Donny sucking off someone going by Bubba. People are speculating this is Bill Clinton because he’s gone by that name, but its also a nickname given initially by a small child that can’t yet properly pronounce the word brother.
The capitalist apparatus requires emmense effort to maintain. Military, police, propaganda, bailouts,… Its not self sustaining and its not natural. For comparison, cooperative, democratically controlled workplaces, have greater survival rates than their conventional, privately owned firms. Not to mention workers or more likely paid a living wage, have greater job stability and satisfaction, and just as likely, if not more so to lead to innovation. Its literally proven a better economic system, but yet some still think it offers empty promises.
More like every time there’s been democratically elected socialists or communists, western powers intervene with staged coups, assassinations, or embargos.

Linux@programming.dev•[solved] Framework 13 keeps freezing after upgrade to Fedora 43: flip_done timed outEnglish
2·3 months agoI’m not sure if this is a Fedora problem, but this is a problem on a fresh install for me, so before I get too set up, I figured I can try something else. Your experience sounds a little different than mine though. I imagine an update will come around to fix this eventually, but maybe those kernel parameters will work for you?

Linux@programming.dev•[solved] Framework 13 keeps freezing after upgrade to Fedora 43: flip_done timed outEnglish
2·3 months agoI’m having the same issue. I’ve seen it might not just be an AMD issue, it could be a GNOME issue, and it might be a wayland issue. Its driving me crazy. Some users said they were able to fix it by setting the kernel parameter amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10 which disables the Panel Self Refresh which is supposed to help with battery life. Someone said amdgpu.runpm=0 setting was also required (something to do with suspending the gpu). These didnt work for me and neither did switching desktop environments.
Heres a link to the kernel parameter discussion, and a guide I used.
The problem I’ve had with trying to debug this is that the journal logs are missing the last 5 minutes or so before the crash. I tried writing a script to log every half second, but had the same problem with missing logs. Could this indicate something? ctrl alt f3 doesn’t work either when it freezes. Ran hardware tests and those all passed, BIOS and firmware are all up to date…
Considering some distro hopping.

Technology@lemmy.world•The Sodium-Ion Battery Revolution Has StartedEnglish
5·3 months agoPersonally when I say I want to ditch capitalism, the first thing I think of, among many, is simply about democratizing the workplace. Cooperatives have proven themselves to be superior than the current private model in a variety of metrics. If we reduce the defining characteristic of capitalism as needing capital to produce more capital, the current issue is that cooperative enterprises struggle to obtain the initial capital necessary to get started. Even though they have much greater success rates, banks have historically refused to give loans to these endeavers. There exists non profits to try and fill this void but its not enough.

Wait is this how you get up to date when your system is past long term support? Had trouble updating once and couldn’t find an answer.
Didn’t properly backup my data and lost a couple years of work doing a fresh install (school work and personal projects). Would not recommend doing backups drunk. Would recommend backing up your data regularly.
