Again, let’s focus on problems we can solve first. That means taking the beam out of our own eye before we go around criticizing the motes in others, or however that parable goes. We have far worse problems in our own home.
/u/outwrangle before everything went to shit in 2020, /u/emma_lazarus for a while after that, now I’m all queermunist!

Racists like to compare President Xi to a yellow animal.

Rich people are a very solvable problem, so let’s focus on problems we can solve first okay
No I’m not? I’m painting anyone who is a doomer as a doomer, as in, specifically the people who think AGI will kill us all. They don’t care about valid issues, they care specifically about this stupid nonsense that they read about on lesswrong.com
This is a real subset of people and the meme is making fun of them, because they’re just feeding into the AI hype bubble.
No one is saying that the valid issues surrounding this tech bubble aren’t real, but that has little to do with the doomer cohort.

And no one is telling children that Jimmy is their friend and they can trust him.
… are you under the impression that doomers aren’t real? I mean, maybe they don’t really believe the bullshit they’re spewing, but they talk endlessly about the dangers of AI and seem to actually believe LLMs are actively dangerous. Have you just not heard of these dorks? They’re, like, near-term human extinction folks who think AGI is just around the corner and will kill us all.

Palm oil frequently requires a lot of death and destruction.

Salt is vegan and not plant-based.

Republicans have come to their senses. They’re not in denial anymore, they realized they’re evil and they love it.

Neither is it capitalism that’s exiling, imprisoning, and executing billionaires when they break the law. Just sayin’.

Border enforcement for the past two centuries have basically just been an international apartheid agreement to control the movement of undesirables while ensuring the free flow of capital. Borders only really exist for the poor.

“Not sure” isn’t the same as not having a strong opinion, especially in the US.
They’re very sure that it’s impossible to have an opinion one way or the other.

Yeah that’s my point. He can just do whatever he wants and Democrats will make a strongly-worded speech condemning it.

I’d love to see how they could do that without being allowed to speculate on the currency and under rigid currency controls. Currency sovereignty means they can literally control who has the currency, speculators can’t just buy it on the free market. A speculator would have to somehow acquire mass amounts of currency by trading physical goods or something else with real value for it (so no coming in with fistfulls of dollars and demanding they sell currency), and the government would be able to turn away customers that don’t pass certain requirements.
Of course then the US declares them “currency manipulators” like it does to any country that asserts its currency sovereignty and hits them with sanctions, but it doesn’t look like they’re safe from the US as-is so I don’t really see much of a difference.
This reeks of “the master protects his slaves and that’s why slaves benefit from being enslaved”

That’s what currency controls are for 🙄

Denmark still claims currency control over Greenland. They can’t print their own money.

If he can declare an insurrection without an insurrection, he can justify a violent crackdown without protesters being violent.

18% are unsure.
The Sun could wink out of existence and there’d be a double-digit percentage of USAmericans unsure that it happened.
But also that applies to both groups.
The owner of the estate only “owns” the land because, generations ago, his forefather stole it. Why does he have a right to keep it?
Right, because you don’t believe art has value or requires thinking. It’s essentially worthless to you.
What people with a critical eye for art can tell you is that the art also has well-defined tasks with explicit perimeters and rules, and generative AI produces uncreative slop that looks amateurish if you have an eye for art. It’s pretty typical for people to believe generative AI is better at tasks that they, personally, know nothing about - it’s a Dunning-Kruger machine.
