  • I think this makes more sense than upvotes to be honest. Both mechanisms are “gameable” but in slightly different ways. Basing it on upvotes allows those that are popular posters / commenters to surface. Basing it on accepted reports allows those with whom the mod team agrees to surface. Both are quite tricky and might need some caution mechanisms built in. One such cautioning mechanism is to only do this at the Community/Sub-Reddit level. Then a more nuanced approach is to surface people based on upvotes per community and then suggest those accounts to community / mods admins for promotion. I.e. no automatic promotion.














  • Why wouldn’t we? They invest hundreds of thousands in good UX and novel business models and are one of the most popular online platforms at the moment. Better borrow liberally from what they and other companies like it come up with to make f/loss better and more financially sustainable. The joke is that because Discord took VC, their server boosts will actually not be profitable enough for them. But it might be for fediverse platforms.
