Of is this about Destiny? I didn’t know his real name
I’ve never done neural feedback myself so I’ll have to look into it. Medication is only partially effective on me but doesn’t help with me improving my behaviours just reducing harmful ones. Probably even if I took meds as a kid it wouldn’t have been life changing, everyone is different in that way
I whole heartedly agree, as a social scientist it’s impossible to deny the continued evolution of ideas is as important as the evolution of methods. Its also why techniques of synthesis such as systematic reviews and meta analysis are crucial for the health of science. It’s also why I am always bothered how we tend to in popular discussions of the social sciences continue to refer back to very old rudimentary musing by founders like Freud or Yung as guides to understand a science that had evolved past time for over 100 years. I respect their work but I feel many people never look past early authors of the 19 and 20th century and try to understand modern theories.
Well there is an entire field of philosophy called the “philosophy of science” which tries to determine the ideal way we should conduct science so it’s an iterative process. Issue with philosophy (and science but more complicated) is that they are simply ideas but many take them as gospel.

Oh it wasn’t as rough as it could have been. My parents did it mostly out of concern that everyone was trying to medicate me first and help me second. I’m much older now and doing my own doctorat in Psychology, so I think I mostly turned out alright.
You’re really a condescending prick you know that? You talk to people in person like this?
The worst part for me is I was diagnosed at like 10 and my parents just went “nah” and forgot for 17 years until I got diagnosed again on my own
I can second this as an organizational psychologist. They are almost always anonymous, the ones that aren’t are considered exceptional poor practice.

4·26 days agoCome Nerevar, friend or traitor, come. Come and look upon the Heart and Akulakahn, and bring Wraithguard, I have need of it. Come to the Heart chamber, I wait for you there, where we last met, countless ages ago. Come to me through fire and war, I welcome you! Welcome Moon-and-Star, I have prepared a place for you! Come, bring Wraithguard to the Heart chamber, together, let us free the cursed false gods! Welcome Nerevar, together we shall speak for the law and the land and drive the mongrel dogs of the Empire from Morrowind! Is this how you honor the 6th house and the tribe unmourned? Come to me openly, and not by stealth. Dagoth Ur welcomes you Nerevar, my old friend… but to this place where destiny is made, why have you come unprepared? Welcome, Moon-and-Star, to this place where YOUR destiny is made. What a fool you are, I’m a god! How can you kill a god? What a grand and intoxicating innocence! How could you be so naive? There is no escape, no recall or intervention can work in this place! Come! Lay down your weapons! It is not too late for my mercy…
As a person from a Ukrainian immigrant family who’s mom is the last to speak the language, that is just painfully sad. The language is such an important part of the culture and to deny it’s existence even to yourself is just sad

56·1 month agoOh fuck not this guy leaving containment and ending up on Lemmy of all places.
Ok so this guy is in my field and is 100% the grandpa he appears to be. The worst part thought is that if you catched this, he talked about a career in “I-O”. Most of you probably don’t know what he’s talking about, but he’s referring to the field of “Industrial and Organizational Psychology” which is the study of people within organizations. What makes this extra bad is that we actually are the ones who study stuff like “how to conduct ethical and high quality interviews”. So he basically violated about everything we recommend in our field why doing this and publishing it. Its honestly embarrassing that this will be many of your first impressions of my profession.
Also the comments are roasting him so badly OP as the comments are likely filled with people who are experts in the subject, so its a deep roast

Oh, I personally love to see it. It’s how we bridge the gap of academia and the real world. There are many things that people feel or experience but don’t have the language to discuss, but once they do it can be very empowering. If you’re familiar with urban planning discours online then you’ve maybe heard of the word “stroad” describing the horrible 6 lane + type roads in much of the US filled with stripmalls. Being on one you can get this feeling of alienation and artificiality, like something isn’t right. However once you have a name for it, you can now discuss and advocate to change the “stroad”.

That’s also a very good point and a problem even within scientific communities. This is partly tribalism, partly jargon, and partly structural. People identify with a discipline or method, dig in their heels, make new terms for old ideas, dont read work outside of their bubble, and everyone is left confused. I agree the scientific method isn’t strict which is a double edged sword. We can’t come to perfect truth but only make good faith efforts to approch the mysteries of the universe.
