24·5 months agoI would call that flat, not linear. Linear implies a non exponential increase. This looks flat.

41·6 months agoVery interesting! I didn’t realize there was this historical division between fortran and c. I thought c was just “better” because it came later.

211·6 months agoFrom what I’ve read monthsl’s worth of Claude queries through github copilot is estimated to have the same carbon footprint as driving 12 miles.
I do not care about IP law. My greater concern is how this stuff furthers consolidation in the tech industry.

112·6 months agoPeople focus on Claude code because it’s a massive improvement over the previous models. The difference between gpt 4.1 and Claude 4 is palpable. (Claude code is really just a particular interface for using Claude 4, though that interface does add some juice beyond just the model the same way that copilot does.)
You make an excellent point in the analogy between c and assembly.
Part of it is I think the current companies are extremely consolidated. Why would they want to make something new? They are only interested in strangling their remaining customers.

1·6 months agoThere’s a lot of features or specific interaction implementation aspects of finder I dislike. For instance, the fact that when you resize the view. Thumbnails don’t reflow, or how there is no cut option in the hot keys or right click menu.

Labor@lemmy.ml•We now have a general Labor focused community. Please feel free to contribute.
3·6 months agoPeople can post non us related articles if they want. In fact I’d encourage people to do that.
I just created this community to quarantine stuff that people wanted to post to the union community that wasn’t specifically related to unions.
Which the union community has quite active international union focus thanks to some dedicated contributors. I imagined labor should/would be the same way.
Ice is part of the dhs but not part of uscis. Uscis is also part of dhs but they are distinct.

71·9 months agoWhat do you think “parallel universe theory” is?
“many worlds hypothesis” in quantum physics is nothing like Sci fi “parallel universe” stuff. Sci fi is fiction. Don’t get your understanding of science from Sci fi.

12·9 months agoI find that multi blade razors work better on slightly longer hair but for really longer hair I would need an electric. When I go from fully bearded to clean shaven I usually run a pass with electric, then multi bladed, then safety razor.

TechTakes@awful.systems•A depressed rant on my acceptance stage of living post-gen-"AI"English
42·9 months agoI wouldn’t say that there’s a clear 1:1 advantage of safety razors over multi blade razors. Certainly the locked in business model of most multi blade razors is bad but there are generics you can get out there. Safety razors do have their advantages but I’ve found they have trouble with longer hair which in my experience usually requires an electric razor to chop down.

I don’t see much of an increase in those charts.
