  • I can completely see why the gameplay might not be for everyone. I don’t remember struggling with the spaceship controls but maybe I just got used it it. If you ever want to give it another go I’d suggest exploring the starting planet first, then maybe go to the moon, and then explore the other planets. You don’t need to visit stuff in a particular order and are sort of led by your own curiosity. Though there’s a logbook in your spaceship for collecting clues which also gives some pointers where to go next.

  • My understanding was that clang isn’t deterministic by default but can be made deterministic with flags. I checked and this is still true but not for the reasons I thought. I assumed this was due to the way LLVM iterates over functions and basic blocks in a non-deterministic order (because of the way they are laid out in memory) and because some optimisations use heuristics. But it appears LLVM tries to make all optimisation passes deterministic. The remaining non-determinism comes from file paths and timestamps which can be worked around with the correct flags and some extra work to create reproducible builds.

  • Thanks for the suggestions.

    • I tried disabling steam input but it appears you can’t do that for the Steamdeck controller. It says “Always enabled” next to Steamdeck controller.
    • I tried binding the walk key to a back button as well, but the back buttons aren’t recognised by the game at all. Possibly another hint that the game is having issues with the Steamdeck controls.
    • I did adjust the deadzone in the Steamdeck controller config. The game itself only has sliders for aiming not walking.
    • That’s a good shout. I had a quick look at profiles too but didn’t see anything that might fix the issue. I will look a bit more. As a last resort I might have to make my own keyboard based input though not sure how well mouse aiming will map to the sticks. It’s just a bit annoying I have to do this at all.

  • I’ve been with Infomaniak for some time now and quite happy. Their 1.50 EUR for 5 mailboxes is hard to beat. I mainly chose them as they offer a decent android app , which is also open source and on f-droid. They are also as far as I know the only provider, apart from fastmail, that offer proper email threads/discussions, i.e. where your responses are shown alongside the received emails within the same thread. I haven’t tried out all providers though so I’d be interested to hear if there are others with this feature. Unfortunately the app can be a bit sluggish at times but it’s mostly serviceable.
