Genuine question, but does the sun’s gravity put it in black hole territory? I thought black holes had such massive gravity that not even light can escape it…and the sun produces a lot of light…

I think the “especially as you age” part of the previous comment was important. Yes walking/biking/moving are good and healthy, but as you age you start losing muscle and bone mass (I forget, like a few percent every 10 years?). The only way to offset this is something like resistance weight training.

Science Memes@mander.xyz•what’s your best “nitric acid acts upon trousers” moment?English
24·10 days agoI was a student in a lab, so I was tasked with making the 10% HCL bath to clean the glassware. I learned that day why you should always add acid to water, and not add water to acid. The building was evacuated.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Adam McKay Says ‘No Group Is Worse’ For America Than ‘White Liberals’: ‘They’re Getting a Lot From This Broken System’
3·14 days agoI have been gravely disappointed in the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”;

If you’re going to do this at least be honest about it instead of hiding behind these words to make it seem less terrible. You’re killing and dismembering these birds.

Programming@programming.dev•AI still doesn't work very well, businesses are faking it, and a reckoning is coming
3·2 months agoIt’ll do things like write a great helper function that it uses once but never again, maybe even writing a second copy of it the next time it would use it.
Holy shit! That exactly explains why I’ve seen so many duplicated functions lately. I brought it up to the dev responsible the first time I found one (git blame), and he was just like “oh haha I can remove one” like he wasn’t quite sure what I was talking about, now I realize he must’ve gotten on that AI train much earlier than I thought…

8·2 months agoI saw a video where they talked about a bunch of studies about ultra processed foods, and the top 3 worst foods for health were (iiirc)
- Processed meats like bacon and hotdogs
- Sugary drinks
- Sugary baked goods (think this included oreos and snack cakes etc)
Those 3 were like 99% of the danger of processed foods.

I haven’t seen anything from hbomberguy in a long time…a long time. I need to check to see what they are up to
