Look at Brexit. Many people look no further than what’s on their Facebook feeds, making it quite easy to sway a referendum that fucks over a whole populace.

9·4 days agoI’m sure it varies by province, but they were available in like October at pretty much any pharmacy in Saskatchewan. Walk in, do the little questionnaire, get poked, wander the store for 10 mins to make sure there’s no adverse reactions, making a total of about 15 minutes in and out.

1·5 days agoSurely they still work in areas without cellular service though? Perhaps it’s better to Faraday cage the module than remove a sim card or fuse, so the car just thinks it has no service.

9·8 days agoHousing first is a fairly well known solution that is proven to work. Unfortunately, the commodification of housing has, of course, rewarded the wealthy and made it nearly impossible for those with little means to have safe, consistent shelter.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•The rise of ID/face scanning to access bars & clubsEnglish
4·8 days agoID scanning has been a thing at clubs in Canada for a long time. There was no marketing associated, but I imagine it was an easy way to identify people banned from the bar.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Quebec’s Lake Rouge vanished – but was it a freak natural event or caused by human actions?English
5·17 days agoDecrease in vegetation by wildfire and logging caused higher melt flows and weakening of soils, eventually leading to soil failure during a spring melt, allowing the lake to drain. Government says it was natural (surprise), locals and scientists disagree.

17·21 days agoThis has a similar theme to Cory Doctorow’s recent speech . I really hope this pushes everyone to be less willing to be pushed around by the US now that Trump has effectively nullified many trade agreements that required countries enact laws that favoured US tech.

It’s also quite fun watching not just American or Canadian teams be competitors. It could’ve been any of five teams playing for gold tomorrow and all have been very entertaining to watch.

It’s almost comical (if we weren’t the ones living in it) that our governments seem dumbfounded that people don’t want to have kids when every part of raising children is extremely expensive.

2·26 days agoI replayed Subnautica in VR with the mentioned mod not too long ago. It’s an environment that’s perfect for VR and really puts the scale of things in perspective. I found some of the leviathans were a little janky in their movement sometimes, but they were still quite terrifying.
