36·1 year agoNot to out just how old I am, but I kind of did this in high school. I was one of the only people in my grade that could type well (about 60 wpm, nothing crazy), so I would type everyone’s handwritten essays for quite cash. It did not net me six figures, but maybe that’s because I went to high school with a bunch of farmers and paper mill workers’ children and not wherever Cuban sends his kids.
erik [he/him]@hexbear.nettochapotraphouse@hexbear.net•Is it just me or did the Democrats stop using "weird"?English
19·1 year agoNot only did they get rid of it, the guy that was the biggest target of it: JD Vance, was basically treated like an old pal by Tim Walz at the VP debate. Instead of taking Vance’s obvious repulsiveness and highlighting it, Walz went into the debate and was basically like “look, he’s not Trump so we can be reasonable about things,” and that was about the time the party also stopped using “weird” in general. Probably related, but can’t say for sure.
The newer seasons of MST3K are a bit up and down, but their riff on the Jeffrey Combs’ vehicle Dr. Mordrid is straight fire. Goes up there in the pantheon of the best of the series with stuff like Space Mutiny and Cave Dwellers.

11·2 years agoSay what you will about Apple, I gave them a couple hundred bucks almost fourteen years ago and I can just use their video editing suite as much as I want and they give me every updates on the reg.

25·2 years agoI missed this game when it first came out, but my child heard a lot about it at school so we got it for him and I saw it was co-op so I was like, “cool, a game we could play together.” Holy shit do I not understand this game at all. I beat all of base Elden Ring solo, no on-line help, but I die within the first ten minutes of being in this game. I’m guessing it’s just something you have to be properly wired for or something and I am decidedly not.

5·2 years agoI’ve had this song in my head all day despite not having heard it in forever. Wild to see it posted on here now. Great track.
This whole soundtrack rules. That Filter + Crystal Method track is arguably my favorite from both those bands.

fitness@hexbear.net•The Strongest Man Alive Visited My Gym TodayEnglish
11·2 years agoOverall, wouldn’t trade my home gym for much. But I do miss the community you get from going to a public gym. I met so many people I otherwise would never have met. Like a dance professor that had the same lifting schedule as me or the time USMNT player Ben Olsen brought some academy players in on a random day. I don’t miss feeling rushed on equipment, or the commute to and from the gym, or being lectured for “dropping” weights when I do Pendlay Rows, but I do miss the community.

5·2 years agoI played last year after a pretty big gap (not 15 years, but close) and honestly it does not hit the same at all. Was thankful, it was pretty easy to put down compared to Vanilla and Burning Crusade. Just seems so streamlined now, I feel like I’m on a conveyor belt of various line fills up.

music@hexbear.net•What are your favorite releases from 2024 so far?English
1·2 years agoReally have liked Alice Longyu Gao since I heard of her through that track she had Oli Sykes on. Wish she leaned into that screamy, heavy stuff a little more, but most of what she does is enjoyable regardless.
erik [he/him]@hexbear.nettochapotraphouse@hexbear.net•I never heard nor read anything good about this gameEnglish
12·2 years agoI really enjoyed the game circa 2014 or so. The game. The player base has individuals that are as toxic as reputation gives. But the matches were actually fairly slow paced and movement creep hadn’t gotten incredible yet. Something very strategic about how the phases of the game went. The heroes were deep enough that you could become good with them on a level that impressed, but not so much so that you couldn’t rotate between good “counters” to opponent’s choices. I actually enjoyed how long the matches were. I usually only played when 2+ friends were also playing to mitigate the toxicity, but I had a blast doing it.

movies@hexbear.net•What's your favorite role in a production's crew?English
8·2 years agoAt the more entry levels of filmmaking, nothing separates the wheat from the chaff faster than sound. Not only is it very underrated by a lot of budding, amateur filmmakers, but it’s so easy to get wrong and so difficult to get right. A lot like finding a drummer for a fledgling band, finding a good sound designer is super hard to find, but so important.

games@hexbear.net•Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous is the best CRPG everEnglish
3·2 years agoI am happy that, for the most part, the computer handles the Pathfinder crunch, but I agree it is a bit much. I even have GM’d Shadowrun tables for like a decade now and find Pathfinder to be too much crunch haha

3·2 years agoOh, wow. I knew WotR and Kingmaker were very buggy too, but I didn’t realize the turn based mode was a mod! Wild. Especially since Rogue Trader only really has turn based.

8·2 years agoI hear you on that. I haven’t had a crashing bug that stopped me completely, but I’ve never had a game crash as much as Rogue Trader does. But, in some way I almost appreciate that because it stops me from playing a bit. It’s the type of game I could really get sucked into and the crash pulls me out and lets me to other things with my ‘me’ time of the day. But maybe it just shouldn’t crash and I should have more self discipline haha

I was way too much of a goodie goodie to ever do that, but I definitely should have.
For lunch, my family qualified for free lunch. The way they distributed this was once a quarter we would get a collection of tickets to last that whole period. I’d tear one off every morning to take in to school. One year, there was a quarter where I didn’t get get my tickets. So, I had to go to the school office once a week that week and get another set of tickets and the office ladies always assumed I was full of shit, but they gave me the tickets.
When the snow melted, we found a bunch of mail in a snow bank. Guessing a plow or something knocked them out of our mailbox and buried them all in one go. My parents had me do the honest thing and take the tickets to the office to surrender them, but the ladies were so impressed I was actually telling the truth the whole time, they just laughed and let me have them. I sold those to other kids, mostly other football players that wanted seconds, and lived like a king during that period (was able to buy a few Magic: The Gathering boosters).
