Those are some dope looking roots. Hope they taste good
That is kind of you to say. I appreciate it! I will post more as I make more, although I may have some older things kicking around that I could put up. Posting on the fediverse is kinda the only place I want to put art online.
Thanks, I had to embellish things a bit after the fact to give things a sense of completeness

Risa•That one time when he made cheese and it broke the shipEnglish
28·3 months agoNeelix is immune to the cheese infection of course because he’s been eating his own experiments for a while and we get a Neelix-Doctor teamup to save people from the disease. But not before most of the crew turns into an infection vomiting mess of cheese zombies. Neelix gets to show expertise and care in the recovery of his crewmates, as well as regret/pathos for wielding his dangerous culinary powers with abandon
Knowledgeable people hate this one simple trick

611·3 months agoI feel like the more ridiculous a neelix plotline, the better. Cheese premise all the way. Could have gone further with it tho. Maybe the cheese bacteria become horrendously infectious and produce a disgusting disease that incapacitates the crew. Bring that shit into DS9 Ferengi or TNG Q episodes of goof level wackery. I feel like his character was intended to fill a similar niche but they never made him into the chaos goblin he should have been.
Thank you :) It’s one of the more interesting challenges about painting people, esp from life. Skin is quite weird in the way it contains so many subtle hues.
I’ve heard this sentiment expressed a few times in recent years and I gotta say, it’s not the same.
What we are talking about here is removing the person and the novel inputs they can contribute to the process of creation.
I would argue that a lifetime of honing skill and soaking one’s mind in various art forms, coupled with an individual’s intellectual and emotional experiences create feedback loops between the creator and their creations that result in new things outside of existing frameworks because there is a special ingredient: someone’s life, their way of thinking and being as a result of so many factors.
Generative tools that have the appearance of creating something are just chopping up what exists and rearranging it.
People do that too, but they often end up unintentionally putting something of themselves in there, because they can’t help it. That’s how we get new art.
The thing is, if we remove the experience how to become a musician completely, we also remove our selves from the equation more completely. Generative tools can “make me a composition in the style A with influences from genre B, with song subject C” but that’s not the entirety of artistic practice. There’s more to it than that, and only by suffering through the process and making it a part of ourselves and so our selves a part of it, do we get something special and new.
If we decide that is not necessary anymore, then I think we will render ourselves incapable of making new art on a personal level, and live out a dreary existence in thrall to a content mill of increasingly bland, recycled tropes…perhaps only the rich and privileged will ever have the opportunity to dedicate enough time in their lives to making new art that is distinct, or perhaps nobody will consider these art forms as worth investing any time in at all.
I think we are going to kill our own creativity and deskill ourselves as a population and destroy how artists get made. if we keep buying into this shit it’ll be like the issue with “moving manufacturing jobs back to the US”. There’s not even enough skilled workers left to support such an idea. Try making an original film feature that isn’t 99% slop or having a real orchestra when everyone has given up on actually being an artist/musician as a job long ago.
It’s not the same as DAWs or synthesizers or drum machines or cameras or whatever. We are talking about killing art as a human endeavour because we are stupid and lazy and think Gen “AI” is “good enough”.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Bicycles should be allowed on the road with the full rights and requirements (tags, inspections, and insurance) as motor vehicles.
492·6 months agoCyclists: Everyone hates me, tells me to ‘get off the road,’ or if I’m not on the road, I get told to get on it. There’s barely any legal thought or consideration given to where I’m allowed to be and if I get hit or killed it’s framed as being my fault.
Attempts at creating a safe place for cyclists to be that is separate from either of these places is seen as an inconvenience to the people who don’t want cyclists on the road, or off it, and so creating lanes and bike-specific infrastructure is met with stiff opposition.
Surely a licensing, inspection, and insurance framework won’t be abused to further erode the viability of cycling in a society that doesn’t want cyclists around in the first place.
Never mind that bicycles predated cars, used to be more popular and never needed these things in that time.
Insurance, inspections and licensing of motor vehicles was created because of motor vehicles and how dangerous they are.
There are other places in the world where lots of safe cycling infrastructure exists and it’s considered normal, even desirable to commute by bike, and they don’t have or need shit like this there.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Fellow 'Fediversers,' what keeps you hanging on here despite the "FV" being a work-in-progress, with all its built-in, various bumps & difficulties to experience along the way?

Unless the ground nearby contains some off tasting minerals. Friend’s dad had a well on his property but there was some kind of sulphur deposit in the ground or something because it made the tap water stink and taste bad. Like farty water. You had to boil it to get rid of the flavour.
Good. The more shitty this platform gets the more people will want to leave. I hate that most people I know in the arts are stuck on this dumpster fire because “that’s where everyone else is“

Television@piefed.social•"Underrated" '80s-set drama Halth and Catch Fire hailed "10 out of 10" by viewers is free to stream now on ITVX for British viewers.
3·1 year agoLove this show. Performances are great, characters are interesting, especially Mackenzie Davis and Lee Pace. The setting and music choices are on point, the story and the subject matter, it feels like it captured the mood of the time and the excitement and optimism around computing in its earlier days. I have watched it twice and would do again.
