Privacy@lemmy.ml•Facebook is forcing new users to use facial recognition
1·14 hours agoNo need of an Fakebook account that it can track you, if your family and friends have an account with your data, mail and phone in their agenda. With this also Zuckerbot know it. Apart of all (pixel)tracking API in all websites with an FB link. Because of this, I’ve blocked all FB services in Portmaster, I can’t even access it, but with it, I’m not longer exist for FB.

The Juasic Park movies were complete wrong with the Velociraptors size, they were only right that they were smart and social animals, hunting in groups like wolfs. It was a misunderstanding, because the paleontologist, asked by the size, said 6 ft, but they meant from the head to the tip of the tail, not the height of the animal, like in the movie, which were not bigger than a turkey.
Same as with the T-Rex following the car in the movie, the T-Rex couldn’t run so fast, the biomechanic calculation and the weight has shown, that the max speed of the T-Rex couldn’t have been more than ~15-20 kmh, he was probably more of a scavenger than a hunter.
Velociraptors would be nice pets, instead of dogs.

2·3 days agoEven with missiles there isn’t any reason to invade Greenland, apart of a NATO member, there is already an US Base there since 50 years. No, Rusia and China are not the reason, but rare earth in Greenland are, like in Venezuela the oil, not the democracy… The next is Panama and Canada in the expansions plan “to make America great again” (and the paria for the rest of the world).
Ok, true, much third world countries treat its people.way better
Zerush@lemmy.mltoMemes@lemmy.ml•One of these is an authoritarian imperialist empire, the other is China
01·3 days agoLook on the map, don’t confuse a straight line distance on a sphere, the shortest distance from Greenland to Rusia go over the EU (Norway and Sweden), while in Alaska they need a simple Zodiac or even Walking in the Winter.

Zerush@lemmy.mltoMemes@lemmy.ml•One of these is an authoritarian imperialist empire, the other is China
71·4 days agoGreenland as strategig against Rusia and China is anyway a stupid argument, due tthat Alaska is separated by 4 km from Rusia, in cold winters you can go walking from the US to Rusia, and China has only commercial trading interests with other countries, not imperialistic ones, like this orange piece of shit.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Histomat of F/OSS: We should reclaim LLMs, not reject them
1·4 days agoWell, if one user ask something to a LLM, there are certainly not much sources needed, but yhere are millons of users doing it to thousends of different LLM. That need a lot of server power. Anyway, it’s not the primary problem with renevable energy sources, the risks are others, biased information, deep fake, privacy, etc., with the misuse by corporations and political collectives.

2·4 days agoAI exist since the first Chess Bot. Naturally due to the limited HW power in these years, AI applications where very limited. It bcame presenz with the current computing capability, thousends of times more powerfull, see the differences between the PC only the last 25-30 years, nothing to do. even a current low cost smartphone is way better as an high end PC from 15 years ago. It’s currently a hype with more than 10.000 AI apps and a cpmpetition between developers and big corporations, with users which abuse it with and for crappy results without common sense, as toy instead of an tool to help in the tasks as it should be, and not for substitute the own work and research. Reason because Bandcamp ban all music made with AI, to protect the artist and their work (https://lemmy.ml/post/41786760). As Example what i mean, it is not the same to use AI to help in a task, as writing aprompt an let the AI do your work, your painting, your music, your research, to sell it as own (mostly without even contrasting it)

21·4 days agoAI in medicine permits the analysis of contagious diseases and the corresponding manufacture of treatments and vaccines in a fraction of the time compared to traditional methods. The manufacture of new materials, research and optimisation in physical, meteorological, and environmental processes, which without AI would have been impossible. The positive effects of AI are undeniable. But as it was said, negative its implementation, its way of using it by people like a child with a new toy, why it is fashionable and cool or biased (commercial or/and politically) AI by big corporations, with AI build in even a Toaster as selling argument.
Artificial Intelligence isn’t the real problem, but human intelligence and ethics.

41·5 days agoThis is the point, We have big advances in tech, physic, medicine. science…thanks to AI. But the first use we give it is to create memes, reading BS chats, and build it in fridges, or worst, build it in weapons to kill others.

Anyway, currently it’s better to avoid as much US products and change to those from the EU for obvious reasons.
