British Columbia@lemmy.ca•Metro Vancouver mayors urge British Columbia to roll back housing density laws
2·3 months agoBuds, how about funding more public transportation lines too, instead of protesting? SkyTrain is great when there are stations nearby, but considering the sprawl of the Vancouver Metro area, it needs to be expanded alongside housing density.
These guys seriously govern one of the most beautiful regions in North America, with unprecedented access to nature, relatively flat so walkable/bikable, and the only thing they can think about is adding more roads, parking, and pollution.

15·7 months agoI’m surprised that no one has said “concrete anchor for an unfinished building structure”. Doesn’t this look like someone laid the foundation for a tower or building or something with the concrete anchor underground, and this is a tie-in area for the additional rebar structure of either a column or a wall that could have joined here? The metal configuration here looks a lot like what’s inside concrete pillars but we usually don’t see it

Best way is to time box it, especially if you’re not accustomed to reading for long periods of time. You could start by carving out just 30 minutes of focused reading before you let yourself get into gaming sessions, which will give you a sense of when you start to feel fatigued (you may end up wanting to read longer). For me, making it a mission helps me focus better at least

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•"I'm socially liberal but fiscally conservative" - What do you think when you hear that?
112·11 months ago“You’ve been duped”. Because people like this never acknowledge the amount of corporate welfare going on in America, if you want to be fiscally conservative, stop paying for profit companies from government coffers. Don’t go after food stamps, that is just veiled prejudice
That one does look amazing! I’m unfortunately limited to a portable one in an apartment. Added to the bucket list though for sure!
They do make professional grade induction burners for woks that are curved, they are beautiful but prohibitively expensive
Alright so you screwed up posting this, because I’m actively looking for a dual induction burner setup, and now I want your advice. Ideally I want a “linked” dual burner so that I can put a square skillet pan across both burners, there’s basically like one of those online, and then a bunch of dual burners that are not linked and slightly different power on either side. Wat do? Anyone have a good experience with this situation yet?

I read through the comments and replies here… have you considered that it’s just aged out or a bad batch somehow? If it does not extract, show some reaction to boiling water, or darken the water, there is a problem. If this is pre ground it could be >6m old. Not sure there’s another explanation here.
In one comment you mention that it “actually tastes good”… How do you know this if it’s not properly “mixing” with boiling water? Diluted coffee tastes not great, so it’s a confusing thing to say
More complete overview below, but basically, it can move faster through phases, can’t be judged as well by color, and can reach crack at lower temperatures. It’s totally possible to get a great outcome! Dialing it in is the fun IMO Link
Decaf beans are harder to roast well (IMO) so it tends to be that the mass distributed ones won’t be great since they’re in less demand. You can find small locals that do decaf runs sometimes, or order green beans and do it yourself. Remember, darker means less caffeine, so if you’re pulling medium roast beans and have no good decaf source, try something dark that you can tolerate and see whether it helps

I once knew a guy who swore by Olive oil as the ultimate skin care solution. Like he literally had a bulk size olive oil in his bathroom and rubbed it all over his body each day.
He smelled like… Rancid olive oil and sweat. Not sure if it helped his skin, as you didn’t really want to get too close to him because of this
