ErgoMechKeyboards@lemmy.world•Upgraded my Svalboard with BTUsEnglish
3·2 days agoIn general, yes. Using ceramic static bearings is standard for trackballs because it is more smooth than the ball just grinding against plastic or something.
This design for the trackball holder is made to use three BTUs as the primary bearings, then includes a spot for a single static bearing that just serves to add stability. That static bearing does really feel optional here, as the trackball touches just the three BTUs 99% of the time. Quick movements that jerk the ball a bit and make it touch the static bearing are rare, and could probably just be avoided by adjusting your pointing technique to just not let that happen.
Here is a blog post comparing different types of common trackball bearings: https://kbd.news/Trackball-bearing-comparison-1757.html

6·3 days agothe Kelvin timeline (ENT, & Kelvin movies), and the modern timeline (ENT, DIS
Why is Enterprise in both “timelines” here?
TAS begins and ends within TOS
I was under the understanding that TOS was years 1-3 of the five-year mission and TAS was years 4-5 (each season being one year). But checking the stardates for the episodes on the Fandom wiki, apparently the TAS episodes were scattered all around the timeline of TOS, with only a few that took place after TOS.

10·4 days agoJust yesterday, I was idly wondering if Termux could be used to run Syncthing instead of using questionable Android apps. Neat to see that it’s working, and setting it up just now was as simple as on any other Linux device.
The data contained in these pages is the result of untold hours, over a period of about three months, of repeated episode reviews, transcript searches, cross-referencing and verification by myself and my Associate Reviewers.
Is there a reason that all that work would need to be done instead of simply searching episode transcripts? I presume fan transcripts would be an accurate source of data.
I didn’t see that news. Apparently their new parent company had immediately fired half the Bandcamp staff
