  • U seem to misunderstand the whole point of this type of platform.

    https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy

Lemmy is similar to sites like Reddit, Lobste.rs, or Hacker News: you subscribe to forums you’re interested in, post links and discussions, then vote, and comment on them. Behind the scenes, it is very different; anyone can easily run a server, and all these servers are federated (think email), and connected to the same universe, called the Fediverse.

For a link aggregator, this means a user registered on one server can subscribe to forums on any other server, and can have discussions with users registered elsewhere.

It is an easily self-hostable, decentralized alternative to Reddit and other link aggregators, outside of their corporate control and meddling.

Each Lemmy server can set its own moderation policy; appointing site-wide admins, and community moderators to keep out the trolls, and foster a healthy, non-toxic environment where all can feel comfortable contributing.

  • I get the sentiment, you make many correct points that I can not disagree with! There are two sides to every coin, and they must work to balance us. Your right that we must move forward in trust, doing away with Sins of the past and being reborn.

    If you would read https://lemmy.today/post/49597645/23011160

About The GOP paragraph: Although I know it’s a largely corrupted party, I agree that the federal government should not be into health-care, education or charity (in our own lands). As far as ICE, we need a border & to punish these who break our laws to maintain our nation, you can say our current policies are bad. But, I feel ICE guys are getting a lot of hate for doing what politicians we the people elected have hired them to do. I know our the USA Fascist & Socialism system is corrupt, I pray we start seeking first the kingdom of God, rather than Money!

Take the bathrooms that you mentioned: why is this a thing that people want the government involved in? Why should the government be able to tell you who can use the bathroom in your business? Shouldn’t that be up to the business owner? Isn’t that the “conservative” solution?

I’m not an Anarchist, or a libertarian, so no, and that’s not clearly not the “conservative” solution. If you read my above linked comment, you can understand why I think government must regulate morality. I also think it’s the duty of the strong (men) to protect the weak (women/children), and part of what makes a gentleman vs a beast.

The rules are here to serve us; therefore, there’s no better set of people to determine what those rules should be. Conservatism is about maintenance of the status quo, and most people in the country are unhappy with the status quo. Isn’t that a good enough reason to change it, and to move away from an elite who doesn’t have our best interests at heart?

Again, I basically have to agree. Maybe “Christian nationalist” is a better fitting term to encapsulate my views! Anyway, I don’t find wearing around such metaphorical badges helpful. Free to address & insult me as you will :)

People seem to be using the Downvote as an “I disagree” button, which is a basic misapplication IMO https://www.reddit.com/r/storyofseasons/comments/l59iya/reminder_that_the_downvote_button_is_not_an_i/

  • Seems people have a different idea on the meaning of the terms then I do. It’s interesting, because, by definition, I am inspiring Christian & and nationalist. And yes, I think the government must regulate morality, aka the “impose their moral ideals on those who they see as “degenerates” in society” part. Why not make rape, incest, theft, murder, domestic abuse, human sacrifices, etc, legal? Because that immoral & would degrade society!

Actually Conservative Christians are anti-Capitalists that care most about serving the needy and destitute and look down on the wealthy for their lack of charity.

I’m inspiring to this ideal more, but, don’t see capitalism of inherently evil, like a gun or a drug.

This is obvious when you consider that “Conservatives” are more offended that trans people like myself might use a public restroom than the fact that ICE is running concentration camps and separating families from their children.

I believe you not making a good faith statement there, and instead trying to straw man the perspective you disagree with because your emotional about this and stereotyping people is the easy way out of self reflection. Why the statement is more or less true, I think your heart posture is one of anger, rather than empathy. (I know that’s a very judgy statement, and it could be wrong.)

  • I look at conservatism as a concept that preserves the experiments that worked, and a necessary counterbalance to progressivism. Obviously, the ideal is a balance between them.

As an example, I think the separation of genders in such things as changing rooms, sports, & jails are all valuable traditions learn by hard lessons of those you come before us, and that we throw those out at are own peril. Basically conservatism = traditionalism in my mind. Who are we to be so bold as to think we are smarter than those you came before us? Or that the ‘old rules no longer apply to our lives’?
