So I’m sure this will just cause more people to use Ublock and other ad blocking services if that one fails. Maybe this will cause more people to look into making their own Peertube instances. But who am I kidding, normies usually don’t like hosting communities themselves…

Gaming@lemmy.zip•End of 10 is a campaign to move people over to Linux with Windows 10 support endingEnglish
1·9 months agoHonestly I don’t mind 11. It’s miles better than 10 ever was IMO. However with that being said, Linux is better. I have to dual boot Windows 11 on my computer because unfortunately there’s no way I can use my Elgato Capture Device on a Linux machine.

6·10 months agoI’m not even surprised lol. Just another reason why communities like Lemmy and forums are better than any social media platform. Man I hope the Fediverse keeps growing, the more people that see through this bs and jump ship and find us over here in the Fediverse the better.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft tells Windows 10 users to just trade in their PC for a newer one, because how hard can it be?English
13·11 months agoI never liked Windows 10, I had way too many issues with it. However, so many companies rely on old versions of Windows and it takes them years to upgrade to the latest version. The machines I use at work still have Windows 10 installed because the software we rely on isn’t compatible with Windows 11 yet. This whole “trade in your old PC for a new one” is ridiculous. Thankfully there’s many Linux distros that work with older hardware so you don’t need Windows!

Happy to be here! I love finding alternative platforms to the big ones, I’m a forum nerd and soon I’m thinking about moving one from phpBB 3 to either Discourse or Node.bb and having it join ActivityPub. I hope more people will join lemmy soon!

1·11 months agoI really wish I was online during those times. Then again I was only 5 years old in 1995, so it’s not like I could do much but play games on Nickelodeon’s website at that point in life. It’s fun looking at web archives of old GeoCities sites!

25·11 months agoI just joined Lemmy after lurking on the Fediverse subreddit for the past few weeks. I’m always open to joining new platforms, and I’m a quick learner. I don’t think my wife is willing to leave Reddit for Lemmy though… But I do suspect we’ll see some more people joining after this and possibly after they start locking content behind a paywall too.

New Here@discuss.online•What is discuss.online? What is Lemmy?English
3·11 months agoHeya, been a while since anyone has commented on this but I wanted to let you know that the link for the Lemmy community browser is no longer online. Still thank you for this helpful post!
I’m glad people are helping others move to Linux once the EOL support for Windows 10 comes. There’s no reason for good hardware to end up rotting in a landfill. Not only can people use these machines still, it helps the environment since there’s less electronics wasting away in landfills since most people don’t properly recycle electronics.
