  • I’ve done this before. I took advantage of a work laser printer to print a bunch of books for free.

To save on paper (and get a manageable hand-held size), print 4 pages per A4 paper. Leave about 2 cm margin per page for binding. Then use an office paper cutter to cut the pages carefully.

Buy some wood glue or fish glue and some good string.

Use the glue to stick the pages together, using about 1 cm from the margins. Add a couple blank pages at the top and bottom. Place under something heavy and leave overnight.

Drill 4 holes per page. You can use a low-power electric drill for fast results.

Cover with some good quality hard paper or mixed plastic-paper. Glue the cover to the spine and on the outer blank pages. You can use a larger cover and fold its edges inwards, attaching them to the inner blank pages, to make it more resistant to wear and tear. Make holes on the cover to align with the previous holes.

Pass the string through the holes and lace the whole thing together to strengthen the spine.

Voila, you’ve got a book that will survive for years to come.

Edit: ideal size for this method is volumes of around 200-300 pages.

  • Tucker Carlson being ousted from Fox may have helped Republicans realize Fox isn’t that great, and may partly explain why the Republican % is much lower than the Democrats.

Not that Tucker Carlson is much better in his views, but at least he did try to break the bubble and brought people on his show to talk about things Republicans would never even heard, like pro-Palestinian views.

To me it seems that most Republicans have tended to get their news from independent media in the last few years, which is why conservative Youtube channels, like Alex Jones (before his demise) or Judge Napolitano (more recent), are so popular.

  • Very significant that they’ve actually made one that works. That’s a big leap. But as far as I know, we are still years behind being able to mass produce and implement them. There’s a few reasons:

    1. They are far more energy-intensive

    2. They generate a lot more heat. If we solve 1. we might be able to solve this to an extent.

    3. Theoretical designs are much bigger in size to electronic chips.

    4. Due to size constraints they can process less information than electronic chips currently. While light is faster than electrons (and wavelength modulation could be used in the future to convey more complex information than 1s and 0s), photonic chips currently have less pathways than electronic chips, so less information can be processed simultaneously.

    5. They require constant callibration to ensure the light source and receiver are perfectly alligned. This makes them very impractical to use for the average user. Even the vibrations inside a desktop computer, due to its fans, can be a problem. They are nigh impossible to use in portable devices, industrial machinery or vehicles.

    6. They are currently really expensive to make, but I’m guessing that’s because we are still prototyping. The materials and process can actually turn out to be cheaper than electronic chips.

  • The Demosucks are banking on the “left” voting for The Cop, simply on the merit that she’s not the Orange Man. They probably will lose a significant % of those votes from the people who are actual human beings with a moral compass, that recognize Israel is being assisted by the US to commit multiple genocides. But it’s very likely their internal polls show they’ll gain just as much votes from the anti-Trump crowd, so they don’t care.

Besides, you can’t be a US politician going for office without the backing of the Israel lobby.

Honestly though, on the bright side, if the US keeps backing Israel so hard, Israel will very likely self-destruct and will take down the US with it. They are both already getting more and more isolated diplomatically.

  • It’s possibly a terror tactic they are taught and ordered to carry out. Before October 7th, we know that the IDF had the directive to shoot to maim Palestinian non-combatants. The idea probably being that the others would look at them as examples to avoid.

Or it could be just plain old sadism. For a period of time, the IDF had decided to implement this “humanitarian rule”, where they’d call the inhabitants of any building they were targeting with a missile, and tell them to evacuate. They’d call and just say “within the next 30 minutes your apartment will be bombed”, and then they’d just hang up immediately without pause. In the beginning a lot of the calls turned out to be false alarms, which made people think it was a prank. Then the warning started turning out to be real, and the people wouldn’t evacuate on time. Then, when people started heeding the warning, the IDF would “accidentally” call the neighboring apartment block instead of the one being hit. Then, when people started warning the whole neighbourhood, they’d start calling too early (hours before a strike, to make people exit, then go back in after a while, then be reluctant to exit a second time), or too late (2 minutes before the missile hits, giving people very little chance to evacuate).

There’s really little point in looking for rhyme or reason to what the IDF does. The Nazis were doing the same things to the Jews. Some of the attrocities commited were direct orders. Others were initiatives based upon directives. Others were just people feeling like the orders didn’t go far enough, and they needed to add their own inhuman flavor. Others thought they were just being loyal, or they were fitting in with the rest of the group. And others were just sadists looking for an excuse to make people suffer.

Whenever this question comes up about the motives of genocidal maniacs, I’m reminded of this scene from Come and See (If you haven’t watched this movie, just stop reading, put it from the beginning and watch it).

We like to ascribe logic to these people to make ourselves feel that at least they adhere to some sense and reason which we can fight against, but it’s dubious they operate on the premises of logic. Or we like to say they’ve gone crazy and have become irrational and illogical, because we want to avoid admitting that they used to be normal people, like us. Either way, we should be looking at the effects of their actions first and foremost. Whatever reason the IDF has for doing what it’s doing, it doesn’t make it any more or less horrific, inhumane or brutally criminal.
