Some don’t have the capital or spare parts lying around to build their own on premises server. A VPS is an easy, secure way to get started in the hobby. No need to gatekeep.

It seems OP was attempting to move several addresses. Several sign ups from one source is probably an uncommon practice for typical users.
The grain direction on the wide part of that cabinet is uncomfortable.

Android@lemdro.id•Nova Launcher is seemingly shutting down – so here are some alternativesEnglish
4·4 months agoThis is the key missing piece for me too. All of the things I use on my phone are accessible through the five icons on my dock. Whether it’s a simple swipe to open another app or swipe to open a folder, none of the “alternatives” have similar functionality.
I don’t want to search for things, I want at most two taps to open the app I want.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Class action suit re maplewashing grocery stores
1·4 months agoI’ve noticed grocers are attempting to skirt the definitions by claiming things are “prepared” in Canada, even if the product itself is foreign. I’m sure that’s how they’ll attempt to get by this lawsuit.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Australians soon facing age checks when viewing adult websites [& search engines, social media, file sharing, etc, etc]
6·4 months agoIt would be somewhat freeing, I imagine. Though, if you were to go hardcore, quick access to knowledge would be the biggest drawback.
Ditching the enshittified parts would probably be easier. Can do offline maps (or paper), purge social media, and use credible sites for any information you might need to look up.
Instagram is not a news source.
I support and enjoy Nebula. Definitely worth the cost in my opinion.

1·4 months agoThings break in all cars. Do you have any data to back up your claim of reduced reliability? Seems they’re doing just fine in Europe.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Class action suit re maplewashing grocery stores
12·4 months agoDefinitely should be a national suit. Not sure how it will apply given differences in Québec’s legal system, but I don’t understand how it could not be considered misleading for a store to label the origin of a product differently than what is stated on the product.
Never thought I’d see an MMM article on here, but it’s definitely relevant.
Which part? The southern prairie has ‘grid’ roads (magenta; literally roads in a grid, every mile E/W, every two N/S), with highways connecting the many towns and cities, settled because of agriculture. Then the northern shield (forest) has roads where they fit best to mainly indigenous communities.

Cooking @lemmy.world•Tillamook cream cheese seem "wet" to anyone else?
3·5 months agoWarming it (rather than just leaving it out at room temperature) might cause some excess moisture to come out of the block. Microwaving tofu is a good way to expel some moisture.
Cheese is just pressed milk curd, after all. A fairly moist cheese won’t need a lot of pressure to release a bit of that moisture, even if it’s relaxation from warming up.
I recently got a clear big ice maker and read into directional freezing. It’s pretty cool (pun intended) and nice that little waste and if something doesn’t work, you can just try again right away.
I feel like this would be an appropriate place to monologue a bit.
As in plumbing vents or piezometers?
I’m looking for a launcher that can hide a folder under a typical icon. I love the swipe up to open the folder, or tap to open the app functionality from Nova. It looks nice but still has everything i commonly use just a swipe and tap away.
I’ve taken a quick look at Lawnchair, Kvaesitso, and KISS, but those don’t seem to have that capability.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Can a non-corporate grocery chain work across Canada?
7·5 months agoIt seems there are a fair few newer Co-op grocery stores that have been constructed in various places in Saskatchewan in the past decade. Co-op seems fairly successful in more rural locations and they’re often the only store in many small towns. Being diversified in hardware/building materials, fuel, ag, and grocery probably helps too.
As long as a nationalized grocery chain also has the underlying distribution network, it should be able to be successful.

It seems like this could’ve been a long flight, the dimming of lights was likely to help people to adjust to the time zone of the destination. A meal was likely served around what might be the destination morning time too.
