27·1 day agoLooks like the perfect intersection for a proper roundabout. That should prevent any head-on collision to the home. Would also have the added benefit of making the whole interaction safer.
I still can’t believe how often cars drive in to buildings and how nothing changes in North America.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•[image] when good infrastructure design does not just prioritize cars its a plus for everyone.English
6·1 day agoAbsolutely don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.
The next step would be for people to voice there desired improvements and additions. This can be the addition of bike paths, raised crosswalks, bollards at intersections, benches and tree shade, patio areas and pedestrianised streets, dedicated tram ways, anything to turn a street into a destination as opposed to a thruway (or throughway).
Anything that can be done to push in the “right” direction is a win when it comes to improvements of infrastructure. Often enough we see cities get stuck in “planing and studies”, and rarely implement, as to not inadvertently make a select few “unhappy”.
Instead we all left collectively “unhappy”, as opposed to a select few of us “unhappy”.

6·2 days agoI think I am just saying that the argument “two children on a scooter” seems to be a scapegoat.
As a kids, we we would ride on our local neighbourhood streets like so. I am not sure what the argument would be if we got hit by a car.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Will New Jersey’s Terrible E-Bike Law Spread to Other States?English
1·2 days agoHonestly I think I might just end up getting this version of a “e-bike” if these types of laws start getting passed.
This at least allows you to ride on a sidewalk, a multi use trail, a bike path, get on a bus or subway or a tram, and you can get hit buy a driver all the same ways!

News@lemmy.world•Boy, 14, charged over fatal e-scooter crash in Manchester
53·2 days agoThe article mentions that a car was involved but yet no mention if the driver is facing any consequences.
Would this collision have caused the same outcomes if the children hit anything other a car or motor vehicle?

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Cycling without a helmet and high-visibility jacket may be made criminal offences in IrelandEnglish
1·4 days agoI do think it’s fine, though I do want to point out the word “cyclist” does carry some “weight” to it especially in North America.
For example a individual like Forester would disagree, this dudes “studies” are essentially what all North American city planners follow regrettably. Link to a summary of this topic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRPduRHBhHI
Its also why its so hard to explain why dedicated separate bike infrastructure is so important. Most city planners for some reason forget that children and older individuals cycle.

So strange that people would rather sit in a parking lot like it were a living room, rather then convert that spot into something a living room.
