Long time ago, after lot of headaches, I discovered the PSU was the culprit. Changing it for another with more power/better quality solved it in a instant. I mentioned it because is something you might not think about initially. Good luck!.

Bash. It has enabled me to automatize a lot of sh*t I wouldn’t do just because it would take me a lot of time/efford to do. There’s a LOT you can do with a few simple scripts, a few examples:

• Remove files I don’t need (images, rip/conversion logs, empty folders…).
• Compress and optimize folders of photos recursively.
• Apply watermarks to photos recursively.
• Convert filetypes (flac2mp3, pdf2cbr, webm2mp3,web2jpg…).
• Configure input devices (keyboards, mouse, graphic tablets).
• Autorename files (spaces to _, . to _, _ to spaces…).
• Remove audio from videos recursively.
• Remove audio/subtitle tracks from videos.
• Download images/videos/audio from websites.
• Update appimages automatically.
• Update/cleanup system/repos.
• Use different theming for different applications.
• Mount iso/bin… images.
• Extract zip|rar|tar.gz|… files automatically.
• Modify pdfs.
• Get the weather for my location.
• Get stats from my PCs to be shown in panel applet.
• Alias program names to ones of my choosing.
• Open CUPS config in firefox.
• Refresh font caches and other management tools I don’t care to remember.
• Fix permissions.
• Make a backup.
• Restore a backup.
• Copy files safely (rsync).
• Change volume level.
• Install all the packages and configs I need to make the OS/apps behave/look the way I like.

I got these: Moko foldable and Plugable bluetooth. I highly recommend the second one because 1. Normal layout and 2. It works with usb cable, so you can unlock LUKS or get into bios if you need to. The moko feels better to type on but you have to deal with the layout (just give it time) and it only works via bluetooth (usb is charge only), so no LUKS prompt/bios AFAIK.

I got a wacom intuos s (pug & play) for that reason, after having a couple of huions. Opentabletdriver only gave me problems (constant crashes and unstable functionality). I’d recommend you a foldable bluetooth keyboard for jams (check for one that work in usb mode too if you want to input the luks password or something like that). I’ve been using the deck as main pc for the last 6 months or so with debian, docked most of the time. Not a bad setup for the money.

I’ve been using openbox only for the last 20 years or so and I loved it. For the last 3-4 months I moved to labwc…and again, I’m loving it. I’ve never felt the need for a full desktop.

Nothing beats playing just what you want, when you want, whether or not there’s internet available and at the highest quality you can afford. Quodlibet/Rythmbox, ID3 and puddletag FTW !!.

Gimp just released 3.0 rc1.
