Faalangst_26@feddit.nltoMemes@lemmy.ml•The "ChInA BaD" Starter Pack for lemmy liberals
35·6 months agoThis is a Dutch investigative piece (English subtitles available) made by the Dutch government funded TV program ‘Nieuwsuur’. Before you start bashing on it for it being biased because the TV program is government funded, a lot of Dutch politicians at the time strongly wanted to increase our trade agreements with China, this item was actively hindering that.
I get disliking a lot of the ‘American exceptionalism’ you see on some corners of the internet, but one must also be cautious of not accidentally creating your own ‘Chinese exceptionalism’. There is actual concrete proof that this is happening in China. This is of course not the fault of the Chinese people, this is government policy, not the fault of the whole Chinese people. But if we become to cautious to speak up about issues like these, they will keep occurring in all parts of the world.
I don’t think I’ll be able to convince anyone in here, but due to me more and more frequently spotting posts about these on my Lemmy feed, I was itching to speak up about it.

Cities: Skylines@lemmy.ml•[Cities Skylines 2, Announcements] Region Pack: Netherlands now available
3·6 months agoAs someone who really enjoyed CS1, but got disinterested in CS2 after hearing about all the performance woes it was having, how would you describe the current state of the game? The steam reviews are still at ‘mixed’ but they ve had some time now to address concerns.
Have to take a look at Fork (annoying name to Google I image). Sourcetree can be quite sluggish and downright annoying on macOS.
Ditto on the CLI having its pro’s and cons
Except it doesn’t, you got the implication wrong. If I say “Astronauts sometimes eat apples” that does not imply that all people who eat apples are astronauts. The statement can still be true even if some/most people who miss their exits are not good drivers.
Out of curiosity, what IDE do you want to use and which one are you stuck with?
Thanks!
Can’t believe I didn’t find those, guess I should have searched for platinum. Guess I’m off installing xfce.

Solarpunk@slrpnk.net•Reticulum Network - Potentially viable global mesh internet
10·2 years agoThat’s awesome, someone actually using Python what it’s best for, creating a minimum viable product, before moving onto something more permanent!
I’ll be very interested to see where this project ends up going.

Solarpunk@slrpnk.net•Reticulum Network - Potentially viable global mesh internet
81·2 years agoThis is a very cool concept and it seems quite mature for something in beta. I do however have my doubts over choosing to use python for something as often used as the network stack. As I understand it, one of the goals for this project is efficiency, and while python is very efficient to write, it is notably very inefficient during runtime.

2·2 years agoMaybe I was being too dense, but I remember mostly having no clue of what was going on in this one. I followed the first movie just fine. (Havent read any of the manga or seen any of the TV show) Maybe on a rewatch it’ll make more sense.
I’ve had some bad experienced with Ubiquitis edge routers and their Unifi software, so I’d rather avoid them for a bit. I’ll have to look into mikrotik!
Though so, thanks.
I’m comfortable with a cli, but in a homelab environment quick testing might prove easier using a GUI, so I’ll probably go with the pfsense route then

Europe@feddit.de•German travel chaos blamed on lack of investment in railwaysEnglish
2·2 years agoAs a fellow dutch person that also travels by trains a lot, I get really irritated when people only complain. Sure, there are definitely fuck ups at NS. But I feel people completely write off the system because of them. I can’t remember the last time a train got outright cancelled (outside of extreme weather conditions in which I also wouldn’t be comfortable driving). There are issues with the system, those should be fixed, but that does not mean that everything is terrible.
But maybe it’s way worse in your part of the country, there definitely have been issues with getting enough personnel (as do all other sectors). So maybe we are both making our arguments from two different experiences.

22·2 years agoI’m sorry, what? It may feel like they suck when there is a 10 minute delay on the train you wanted to take, but the Dutch railway system is one of the most reliable in Europe.

PlayStation@lemmy.world•Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Review MegathreadEnglish
4·2 years agoI hope they’ve done enough to the Manhattan area to ‘spice it up’. In the first game I never really got any incentive to explore it beyond the icons on the map/hud. When Tears of the Kingdom released I was also a bit disappointed with how much of the map stayed the same. Sure, they added a lot of new areas in that game, but in the end you still had to cover a lot of known ground.
Still, reviews are looking good and I’m excited to try it out;
It’s limited so it can be driven using a scooter license. In many European countries you can get this license at age 16. It is also often easier and cheaper to get, but it limits your vehicles max speed to 45 km/h.
It’s used as an informal way to tell someone that you wish them “luck”/“succes” during work. The English equivalent would be: “Have fun/good luck at work”. It’s something like that, I’m finding it quite difficult to literally translate it because it’s more of a cultural meaning than any official definition.

I think it is great that you’re transparent about your AI usage. I’d assume most of the down votes are because most people don’t want to see it on their Lemmy feed. What is the added benefit? If they wanted an AI generated config they’d generate it themselves, not search online for an AI generated one. So I don’t believe that the generally ‘negative’ reponse reflects on you, just most users’ desire to not have AI content on their feed.
