  • Yeah… I finished up the Tom’s article. Nope, I lied… I just gave up on reading it 😌

It just seems like something that could be encapsulated, no? I guess since they call it a hypervisor bypass it sits below the virtualization layer… which is essentially Greek to me. About 1 million years ago, I tried to get solid Works to run in a Windows VM on Lennox and it wouldn’t work. Best I could tell they were using device names that the virtual machine substituted for real hardware… I tried to recompile it and change the names, but I gave up because I didn’t care that much. Since I was using Solidworks pretty much all the time a dedicated machine wasn’t a big deal… as hard as most gamers game, that seems like the route I would go if it were me.

A deadhead gaming box more-or-less isolated… obviously it’s not exactly gaming on Linux, but if you’re playing a game on a windows computer from your Linux desktop… I’d argue that it’s the next best thing.

  • Obviously, I’m not an ornithologist… but they were acting weird, moving erratically… kind of like very slow hummingbirds if that makes sense. Maybe they were just catching bugs…

IDK… local news was all we had, I remember a tiny article in the San Jose Mercury… and I remember a lot of berries, but not like 3x as many as the year before. So I’m inclined to agree with you. An early spring or something, maybe more baby birds… but drunk birds made better news. And if one outfit reports it that’s really all it took for a dozen other sources to just quote the first. I certainly don’t remember any experts weighing in or who the Mercury cited.

Honestly hadn’t thought of it in years, but the photo made some rusty neuron roll over in its grave 🧠🪦

  • I mean… honestly I have been intending to make those plans so years… so that’s on me 😝 Like literally pops is a German immigrant, I could have citizenship there, but it took a friend 8 years.

But part of me always comes back to the USA being my home, not something to be abandoned when shit gets rough. I don’t really consider myself politically motivated or minded, I didn’t vote for most of my life… nor does it really matter with the electoral college in my particular zip code. And somehow nothing local that really matters to me or has any bearing on my quality of life ever seem to make it on the ballot.

Maybe going to a protest is pointless, maybe it’s not. Maybe the point is not what changes on the ground but how we are perceived by the world at large.

Lastly… it seems less risky than anarchy or “direct action.”

Granted I am already a terrorist for thinking, seditious thoughts while duceing it out yesterday morning… but I’ll try the protest first 😅

  • Oh that was it! I can’t remember the cause but IIRC there was something that caused the uhhhh pirocantha (SP?) berries to be extremely abundant or something similar that years. Early 80’s… I was a child but it was very upsetting… I want to say 2-3 birds hit the windows or sliding glass doors a day. Fortunately most were barely even phased, but it was very creepy. Also fortunately, I was too young to have seen Hitchcock’s The Birds.
