Yes, actually. I was waiting ever patiently for it to be released since last year, but I only discovered that my ID was required when it was already released & I was attempting to join. As such, I declined . . .

Buy Canadian@lemmy.ca•My guide to buying more Canadian / less American
4·2 days agoHome Depot is an American company though (& a pretty pro-trump one at that).
As an aside, I purchased a Canadian flag from Canadian Tire that was made in Canada by a Canadian company, so not all their products are sourced outside Canada.

For myself, I am vegan for the animals.
I just could not justify participating in industries which exploit, abuse and kill them; especially once I learned about the true horrors they experience and the vast scale at which it all takes place in such frequency. It is a real, unending hellscape that happens behind societal curtains-- to such an extent that I can only imagine it must come to an end one day if we really believe ourselves to be an ethical species.
Vegan for them, vegan for life ♡

-
Breakfast: Oats with blueberries
-
Lunch: Cashew butter sandwiches with chocolate almond milk and a fruit
-
Dinner: Pasta bolognese using TVP and nutritional yeast along with spices to taste (with a side of veg & bread) ♡

Ask Vegans | Demandez aux véganes@lemmy.ca•I'm not a vegan, but I do like my fruits and vegetables. With that said, when is it gonna be safe to eat lettuce or other recalled contaminated veggies again?
11·10 days agoYou’re right that Mexico has a better climate for growing fresh produce, it’s where Canada also gets a large portion of out-of-season produce from as well.
If I understand correctly, the reason as to why there is a significant spike in food contamination & infection/illness in the US is due largely to the rollback of funding & legislation by the current administration, which makes it more difficult for those in the food inspection & quality control sectors to work effectively for consumers.
Another workaround could be to buy frozen produce, as there doesn’t seem to be a lot of news about contaminated frozen fruit & veg. Hopefully, at least!

141·10 days agoWell, I personally try to avoid buying american products, which is where most of the contamination is happening at the moment, but that might be easier since I don’t live there. It’s always best to check the labelling of products/produce, as they will often state where that product is from, but it’s important to also cook your veg thoroughly as well. Others might have differing views on your question :)
Thanks for your post!

Ask Vegans | Demandez aux véganes@lemmy.ca•what's the consensus on plant-based meat substitutes?
12·10 days agoHi there!
The consensus may vary depending on who you ask, but over-all, it tends to be along the lines of what you have mentioned; that it helps reduce meat consumption.
Where I am from (Canada), it’s common to see brand names like Daiya and Gusta, both of which I personally enjoy from time to thyme. I also like making seitan at home when I have vital wheat gluten, which has the highest protein per gram of any food!
As for which to avoid: I personally avoid products that are made by meat companies, like Lightlife (owned by Maple Leaf Foods), as there are alternatives that don’t ultimately fund slaughterhouses.
Thank you for your inquiry! Hopefully there may be others who will chime in as well ♡

8·1 month agoSomething I think the NDP may benefit from: No longer focusing on attacking only the governing party, but also the official opposition. Doing so might help garner soft votes from both parties to help fortify the chance of the NDP at least becoming official opposition themselves one day. I’m not a political expert though, so I can’t say with certainty, I just want the NDP to win.

1·2 months agoWell, it only started once I began shaving with a manual razor. There were no blemishes before, so I’m thinking it’s caused by like in-grown and agitation from the razors, and that my skin is just super sensitive now that it’s hairless . . .

I mean, just as with products at any grocery store, it’s all about looking closely at the labels and (in my case at least), cross-referencing through web searches and/or Canadian apps.
