Linux@programming.dev•How to stop Wayland from broadcasting my selected text?
2·23 hours agoThe application was MPV. At random time it started consuming 100% of one core for a long time. I could track it down to the clipboard thread where a loop polls Wayland to get the latest content of the clipboard (selected text). Seems like a bug in some other application spamms this clipboard buffer from time to time and so caused the MPV loop to run continously.
This way I learned about that Wayland API and as MPV can emit logs whenever the poll loop got new data, I was able to see that it fired whenever I selected text in some application.
Good to know the name of this feature; primary buffer. Now I need to find a way to disable it.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump in letter to Norwegian PM: "Feels no obligation to think purely of peace" due to Peace Prize rejection
6·3 days agoWhat the fuck.
I’m at a loss for any more words.
Yes, please continue the Jimmy series.
@nephew@lemmy.ca what is your license for this image? I would like to use it in my university.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•This US naval communications station which was named after an Australian PM mysteriously went missing and was never seen again
3·17 days agoLooks more like a summoning circle to me.
systemctl enable --now ...sparen.

Thats why I wrote “average worker”, which excludes the rich. But median is also good.
Yea, such comparisons should be done in units like “% of average worker salery”. Not saying that their argument is wrong and things are way better now, I just don’t like absolute value comparisons over such distances.

World News@lemmy.world•How internet sleuths are un-redacting some of the Epstein files
85·28 days agoAs pointed out in the article, how do we deal with documents from people filling the blanks with whatever they want and claim they “unredacted” it?

8·28 days agoNot only the same thing, some features are even better compared to Lemmy.

When he asks again for hosting on the server don’t bother asking him about his software. Just do malicious complience: create a new user on the server, no sudo rights, ssh enabled and install Podman. Podman is like Docker but fully confined in the user.
This way he can play around however he wants (installing packages in a container, exposing unprivileged ports, …). And you don’t have to think about his stuff anymore but can watch the struggle.
