i suspect it works similar to how facebook works (or used to?): whatever tickles you to interact with it more, will be placed on your page or whatever…
but that is something that every webpage and app should avoid doing. i dont think tiktok is special here. i mean, sure one might argue the chinese government probably has a hand in this, but that would be speculation. and also, the us government is banning apps it doesnt like, so in my opinion: yeah, everyone except (most of) the users are assholes here

I’m kind of undecided on whether this is fascist. I mean obviously it empowers fascists and is a move towards fascist, but is motivation relevant? Because if motivation isn’t relevant, and taking actions which lead to fascists taking power is unambiguously fascist, then everyone saying to abstain in the 2024 election is a fascist. Which okay, I’m fine with that being the truth, I’m just not sure about it, you know?
