      I think the US is just bitter. They had a thing going there; Castro ended it. Cuban government took US assets. Cuban government would later partner with the soviets, including the whole nuke thing.

      I was really hopeful the Obama policies would turn Cuba into just another Caribbean island, but here we are. I don’t know much.

      Edit: So in short, they’re really close to the US and not aligned with the US politically, which is a problem. And you might say the same about Canada or Mexico but it’s on a completely different scale.

        It’s more than that. Going soft on Cuba means losing out big on Latino voters. They, particularly Cuban immigrants/refugees, want Cuba’s government to burn.

        Basically you stand to lose Florida if you stop oppressing Cuba and it’s a pretty important swing state
