Psyche
Unfortunately, though it almost certainly started out as “psyche,” the alternate spelling of “sike” is now the more common usage and therefore likely considered acceptable… but if my kids ever spell it that way, I will disown them.
I understand and don’t really mind changes in language that come from convenience or laziness. But when they come from ignorance like this one and ‘should of’ it bothers me.

Yes. The expression comes from the concept of psyching someone out. Sike has no meaning or precedent. It’s just a spelling that sounds the same.
