Because companies start with engineering, then move focus to marketing and finally move to finance, at which point what are they even doing anymore. Just let them die.
That’s why I like selling at startups. I find engineers I like, making something valuable and helpful. These days most work comes from eng friends or old bosses recruiting. I make their equity valuable. I excitedly create new engineering jobs as I create demand for them to keep up with deal flow and appreciate every hire. If I sold car parts, I’d know how many kids every motherfucker on the assembly line has. Too many MBAs in tech now, no regard for humans let alone the ones creating the thing they’re making a living on.

No lol I’d never accept a job there. 10 years ago a previous coworker asked if id join and i let him know my string opinion, which has only been backed up since then by their terrible practices. Cambridge analytica, myanmar, lots of people have suffered. Zucc and team were shit early i can’t believe people still use their spyware and let their kids be manipulated. I’m aware of the shit Meta has done over the years, that’s why I don’t use their products.
But, back to the point, I’ve met people that work for Meta directly or under acquired companies that are doing beneficial stuff and making a good living doing it, including open-source development and accessibility research/development. You can be hardline but not everything is so black and white.
That’s just nonsense. There are plenty of competent nice people working there. You can say that about leadership if you like.

Most companies are doing it right now. They don’t want to pay for developers as professionals. They want them to be low wage slaves like all of their other employees and have been working towards that for years. The fake promises of “AI” is giving them an excuse to lay off all of the experienced developers and hire entry level people pretending that “AI” will do the actual work. In reality the few remaining real developers are having to pick up all of the slack combined with products getting more and more buggy and useless. Eventually things will crash, but they’ll be able to rehire at much lower wages because consolidation has lead to very few small businesses in the market anymore and very few large businesses that all just laid off a ton who haven’t been able to find work.
What is Meta even building any more?
