Much better race than I expected. I keep dismissing the circuit but it puts out entertaining races.

I never understood people’s hate for Miami as a race track, it’s like the most 7/10 of all time in my opinion. Most races here have been pretty good, it’s a perfectly cromulent circuit for racing. I think people just get reverse halo effect from the surrounding environment, the parking lot vibes, the highway overpass over the chicane, the fake marina, the Americanism of it all… But we’re not here for digital tourism, if the sightseeing and environment around the track was the point then Monaco would be everyone’s favourite track. Miami a perfectly fine circuit for racing.

Pretty good race all in all. Miami is a solid track for racing. If you haven’t already then I recommend both F2 races as well, great entertainment in both.
Once again McLaren’s conservative strategy team gets caught out and Kimi and Merc were able to capitalise. Apart from the start (which Kimi really needs to work on) he didn’t really put a foot wrong and made the overtake when he had to. Norris in fairness didn’t really do anything wrong either, he was just let down by his pit wall.
Mixed weekend for Red Bull, on the one hand their upgrades are working and they made a huge step, on the other they seemed to have been in the classic vein of making Max faster and the 2nd driver slower. Hadjar seems increasingly lost and while it’s not time to start worrying quite yet it’s a first question mark. Max had a great race all things considered, Hannah gambled on a strategy and I think it was worth a shot but didn’t come off this time.
Shout-out to Colapinto who had his best F1 weekend yet, but I want to highlight something else: double points for Williams. Is this the beginning of the light at the end of the tunnel? Have they finally started to shed some weight?
The thing with Max is that he’s such a godlike driver that you have to build the car around him. RBR will actually lose points if they make a car that’s drivable by both drivers but neither can get 100% out of the car. If they make a car for both they’re Ferrari in 2025 and Max outscored the entire Ferrari team.
They have nothing to lose by making the car for Max. If they make a car both Max and Isaac can drive then they’re going to fight to be the 4th best team and risk losing it to Alpine or Haas. But if they make a car in which Max can fight for podiums they’re effectively guaranteed to be the 4th best team with a very small hope of getting 3rd. Max finishing 4th and Hadjar scoring no points is better than Hadjar and Max finishing 7th and 8th.
In short, if they can’t make a car that can beat Ferrari they’re better off making a car in which Max can beat Ferrari and go toe to toe with Merc and McLaren. Sucks for Hadjar but that’s the math.

was it me or the camera work sucked monkey balls in this GP?
The cameras and commentaries were discombobulated, when Gasly and Hadjar had the incidents you were able to see them moving down in the chart but there was zero mention or camera work to show what was happening for a few minutes.
And yes I get they don’t want to show the crashes if something bad is happening but no mention of what’s happening is worse than no cameras nor detail until confirmation gets released.
Not a huge fan of the current directorial selection of cameras. For a moment though it was computer assisted instead of selecting the best angle and moments of the race.

I also completely hate the takes where the camera is perfectly in front of the cars (at the end of whatever straight they are traversing)… you cannot appreciate any speed or even noticed if one car passed the other.
There’s also no sense of what corner they are on or even what track it is half the time. They may as well race on the same track each week.

All tracks have their quirks but yesterday was awful IMO… we had to wait like 7 minutes for the replay of the opening corners, they constantly had the good action as vid-in-vid while the main display was showing a no-matter pass mid-field, and when they finally caught a good take live, they literally switched cameras to something non-important
I was only able to watch the highlights of the race afterwards, and not the race live, but was surprised about all the action. Seems like the regulation adjustments really work well. Leclerc had a pretty great strategy of using his battery power when fighting Max towards the end. His last lap was unfortunate.
