I mean I get that this site has a hate boner for Reddit, but are we really going to look at platforms like Facebook/Meta, TikTok, Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube and unironically say that Reddit is worse than all of those?

Reddit is shit. All the others I listed are significantly shittier.

I don’t disagree, they’re all bad. I think reddit stands somewhere in the middle, and it all depends on what you value. For me, the combination of the bot problem and the weird need to hunt people down and harass them was what made me leave. This is specifically what the video I posted is about. The videos title is a little hyperbolic but it was early and I didn’t feel like coming up with a new one, my apologies for the bad headline.

majority of the userbase on this site isn’t the type to go for context, or history, or facts. let alone doing any comparative analysis of relative harms

they prefer irrational obsession that blinds all reason and fact and really is just a avenue for expression rage and hate. then they blame it as a necessary response to the ‘other side’ or whatever issue they perceive themselves to be on the ‘right side’ of.

What right wing bullshit is this? Painting x as “free speech” and glazing musk. Painting white people Twitter as worst than the Donald. Complaining about right wing being silenced. Just ideological drivel with a few facts thrown in

The video description is all advertisements, instead of a single detail about the video, itself. Sorry, if you’re gonna upload a 40-minute video and expect people to watch, you gotta give them SOME sort of summary about what’s in the video. Instead, they took that opportunity to advertise random, uncurated bullshit to you.

I mean, I (~12 year user of the site, almost a million combined karma, banned by a bot) was never under the illusion that reddit operated for the benefit of its users; the API thing made that clear. But when it went public, I said, “well, that’s that,” and it seems I was right.

Great read. Makes me feel a lot less alone with the issues I’m facing. Interesting.

I watched your video a couple nights ago before bed, I deleted my reddit account today and see you here coincidentally! I share your sentiment, I used reddit for most of my life, I remember what it used to be.

It’s taken me years to actually get over the addiction, it was a few years ago now that I noticed being on reddit was genuinely pissing me off. The genuine discussion obviously declined with the growing userbase, but the last year or two it’s turned into 99% slop and either ragebait or braindead echo chambers.

I’ll miss a few of the communities because reddit was the main forums for certain games etc. but it’s just not worth it anymore. Hoping to replace the insane amount of time I spent scrolling on that website with something productive.

Edit* I just realized it may not be your video but my points still stand :D
