Hi, i’m looking at a replacement for my garmin forerunner 305.

Something that fits running and swimming, preferablu not from usa, has good privacy, and … Can be read without my reading glasses.

Most can be found in comparisons, but not readability without reading glasses.

But I can’t be the only one ;) Any recomendations?

update:

Other than gadgetbridge, there seems to be as good as no way of avoiding the manufacturers software/servers. After reading a bit, polar is (for me) the way to go. Privacy policy look quite good and next to nothing requires 3rd party connections.

Now indeed, many seem to be phasing out MIP in favor of amoled because -in my opinion- the brighter colors so -again in my opinion- form over function. I landed on the polar pacer pro and just ordered myself one. (Currently everywhere on sale)

Privacy means something different to everyone, so it’s really up to you as to whether you consider the privacy policies of these companies good enough. I’m not aware of any company that meets stricter interpretations of privacy; they all collect and store data of some kind. If you’re after that level of privacy then your best bet would be to find a watch that can store data locally without connecting to the internet or needing to sync with an app. I use my Forerunner 55 like this.

That’s what I liked about the FR305. Connect to serial port and get gpx directly to my linux pc. (looking at gadgetbridge now too)

Yes, HRM and GPS for run, HRM & laps for pool swim. Not to much clutter on the screen, I would not mind pressing a button to cycle through data. For what I read MIP would be a better choice over amoled
