I hard quit by installing linux on a new PC, and then trying to login to facebook with it. It locked my account because of “suspicious behaviour” and required that I send them my ID to unlock it. I’ll chew on broken glass before I send them my ID though, and thus, no more facebook for me.

I’d been wanting to quit for a long time, but struggling with it due to the network effect. They went and made it easy for me

Definitely the right call, when I was banned from facebook, the first step was this kind of ID request, and then shortly after I provided it I got the real ban. No explanation of the reason beyond copypaste about ToS or any further communication of course. They were just fishing for my ID and I fell for it.

Congratulations on leaving! The silver lining of these platforms continuing to enshittify is that more and more people are finding a breaking point and jumping ship.

Interestingly I created a new fake account for testing using a fresh Gmail account on waydroid android emulator over a VPN expecting to be denied completely yet it works somehow without having to verify anything. They must be desperate for new users.
