Many western countries including Canada, Australia, UK, and various others regularly carry out FONAP operations through the Taiwan strait and waters around islands claimed by China in the west Philippines sea. The CCP stamps it’s feet and demands them to ‘stop interfering with the internal matters of China’ but these happen about every month or so just to remind CCP that these western countries DGAF what the CCP asserts, only what UNCLOS asserts.
It’s part of the exercising of that whole Rules-based international order that we apparently can neither confirm not deny.
What’s interesting is that China is also a signatory of UNCLOS.
Turkey actually has a similar territorial dick measuring contest with Greece over some islands but they didn’t sign the treaty and thus don’t have to care that Greece did.
