    The feddiverse is interesting, you can post on one service and read it through a completely different service, not even running on the same server.

    It is pretty amazing.

      I never stop being amazed by running snac on the server, with toot and tuba as clients, and seeing everything work seamlessly with everything else. None of this software ever expected to interact with the others - and it all works!

      I should have the same feeling about email, the web, XMPP etc, but I’m just so used to those that it isn’t awe-inspiring to me anymore.

      But that also means that you are way less anonymous and many people don’t even know that. Interactions that are typically “anonymous” (except of course to the platform owner) on other platforms like up/down voting is completely public on lemmy. Everybody can just “tap” the feed and see what you upvote and downvote - it’s basically heaven for data collectors and advertising companies.

        That would imply they didn’t have access before. Let’s face it, they did. It’s just democratising the access to that information.
