I moved to Melbourne from interstate 15 years ago. I have to move house (to downsize) in a few months, but nowhere feels right. Just picking a suburb has been paralysing.

Over the last couple of weeks a few things have made me think of returning to my home state. Recent discussion with family has solidified it. I’m going home.

It’s going to be weird not saying anything about it IRL till it’s settled.

I feel you and I understand. It’s weird isn’t it having that feeling but knowing your doing the right thing by leaving? Something has changed here and I can’t put my finger on it, do you feel the same?

Yeah, absolutely. I went through a rough time a few years back and Melbourne lost its sparkle for me. I really have tried to push past it, but seem to keep struggling with the same stuff. Since coming to the decision to leave, there’s been unexpected relief.

Oh wow. I have genuinely felt that reply.

Practical plan wise I’m considering UK Brighton and commuting to London for work. Am a pom and Principal in tech and finance/trading so piss easy for me.

But what are you gonna do now that’s sparkle has gone? Where you off to?

Sounds like a solid plan! Such a massive move though. Do you have a timeline sorted, or still settling all that?

I’ll be heading back to my childhood city interstate. It doesn’t necessarily have the same sparkle that Melbourne once had, but is comforting and the built in support networks will make it feel less like an uphill battle.

Good luck, happiness and good health where ever you choose.

      so many hugs

Melbourne will be poorer without you.
