Most bald men don’t have a completely hairless head, they keep the chaplet (not sure this is the right word, but the dictionary says it is) for a very long time. Understandably, Patrick Stewart didn’t want to actually grow his hair out enough for it to show. Either way, if you want to look like Picard you usually need to shave your head every couple of days even if the top of your head is completely hairlesss, and it’s annoying to do it yourself - if you have a skillful barber in walking distance and can afford his prices, you’d go there all the time. And the barber is usually happy, because it’s easy money.

You didn’t ruin anything. I’ve said it before, Barclay and Eddington look like shit because they don’t do what picard does in accepting the baldness and getting the remaining parts of their hair cut appropriately.
EDIT : Never thought of this, but the same goes for EMH, he’s balding but doesn’t look like ass because he has the rest cut properly.
I do think some guys go overboard with shaving. Go full bald when going Statham would probably look better.
Having hair like Picardo look perfectly fine. Jude Law is also increasingly bald, but still looks ok. So do Danny De Vito and JK Simmons. I think it’s even possible to pull off a bald head with a mullet. What absolutely does not work, is comb-overs and haircuts that attempt but fail to hide the balding.
Its commonly called a crown, at least around here.
No money (on Earth) in the future, so that barber is in it for the love of the game! Gotta respect that.
I like to imagine that Bolians have salons similar to Earth’s urban barber shops, where people are really just there to gossip, small talk, argue politics or philosophy, and the grooming is just a side perk.
I can’t remember the name of the book, but roger Zelazney had an alien who cooked for humans. All Earth food was poison to the chef, but his sense of smell was so acute that he could prepare meals that were better than anything a mere human could produce

(Also, as a guy who gave into reality during covid and adopted a shorn look, I find I’m spending almost as much at thr barber as before. Much easier to justify getting a nice beard lineout before a date/fancy event nowadays.)
