Why didn't this work?

There is a post on lemmy.world here: https://lemmy.world/post/85496?scrollToComments=true

I can view the post through lemmy.ml here: https://lemmy.ml/post/1227953?scrollToComments=true

I left a comment on the post through lemmy.ml, but it didn’t post it to lemmy.world. The lemmy.ml version only has my comment, but the lemmy.world version has 12 comments (mine not included).

It was my understanding that I could comment on other instances posts. Can anyone explain what is going on here?
